Direct or Recruitment agency?

    Saw a job advertised with a recruiter and then directly found the job advertised. After discussing the role with the recruiter its definitely the same role.
    I presume you would be in a better bargaining position with the employer regarding salary if you went direct?
    Is there any advantages to going through a recruitment agency?

    Depends on the relationship the employer and recruiter have. If it's good the employer might trust the judgement of the recruiter and favour their candidates.
    If it's not so good then you're better off going direct.

    If I were you i would probe the recruiter to see how much they know about the job the company, their contacts within the company, when they want someone to start, what the history is like? (How many people they have placed their in the past).

    Why would you recommend someone applying for the same job twice? Surely the employer isn't going to be impresed by getting two copies of the same CV?

    +1.
    Go with one or the other, but definitely not both.

    Everyone loses if the CV comes in from two sources.
    The recruiter looks like they don't know what they're doing.
    You look like you've pulled a fast one on the recruiter and
    The client loses a potentially perfect hire because you're automatically rejected because of the above.

    Personally speaking I would always try and source the job and apply directly myself and I worked in recruitment.

    I've always gotten further when applying directly.

    Then again, there are some great recruiters out there who go the extra mile to make sure you're prepared for the interview, and really push for you to get it (like the one who organised my interview on Tuesday:))

    Definitely go direct.
    Why would you use a middle man when you can do it yourself?
    To my knowledge, recruitment companies just pass on your CV and hope for the best.
    I'd imagine a company would much prefer to hire someone direct, rather than having to pay a recruitment company.
