What was the point of the ridiculous vote of confidence in Brian Cowan this week if the Government are never going to lose any vote because of the whip system? It doesn't matter what the vote is, the Government are never going to lose. What would happen if the opposition all resigned their seats leaving the Government with no opposition? Would this force an election?

Nope, I think they would just give themselves raises, increase their pensions and pass a law making teh constitution illegal and banning any future elections, future membership of the Dail would be by devine right.

It was pointless this week, because Cowen delayed it until all of his sheep-without-consciences were back in the fold.

Last week, when they were dossing off, it might just have worked.

    Ask the opposition.

Maybe it's because they saw FF waste not only time on Anglo but also €22 billion that we'll never see again, put that together with the fact that FF still somehow seem to get votes, and decided to organise their own failure ?

I mean, when's the last time you saw any party being rewarded by the electorate for having a good idea ?
