Experience for Counselling

I just finished my psychology degree and am planning to apply to do counselling psychology within the next few years. In the meantime, I am trying to gain as much experience as I can with volunteer placements. I'm looking at care assistant PLC courses, but I'm having a hard time finding one that suits me. Is there any other route I could take to gain proper experience aside from those I've just mentioned?

I keep posting this suggestion, but most community based as oppossed to HSE addiction treatment/rehab facilities are usually willing to take volunteers.
