Coolant Leak

    Hi there,

I've a coolant leak and was wondering how to fix it. The dashboard lights up once every 4 weeks informing me that the coolant is running low. Historically I have just been topping it up when it shows up on the dash board.

Is there anything I can add to the coolant that would plug this leak?

It looks as if the leak in is the coolant tank itself as when I fill it I can see a little drip drip action under the tank.

Car :Audi A4 Engine : Petrol

Had the same problem with my golf. Thought I got the leak fixed but another one has appeared. Very annoying. Locating the part and changing it was a big job I am told.

What year A4? Is there a visible leak or does the coolant just vanish?

Hi Confab, its 2005. I can see a drip drip action coming from the end of the tank, but cant see the actual hole itself.

I have an audi a3 1.6 petrol, the plastic coolant pipe connector that bolts to the side of the engine was split causing a loss of about a litre of water a week.

Id advise you to get the system pressurised to confirm exactly where leak is coming from. If it is the tank then its best to replace it. If it overheats then it could get expensive.

Thanks for the replies, I thought there was a substance you could buy that would seal the hole in the tank. A do it yourself job?
