thinking of getting the newer one. Was wondering what the resell value is on the current one. Or where would I look?

Approx 1 year old with Apple support contract (3 years total).
    10.6.4 Snow Leopard
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    DVD-RW
    320GB HDD
    Remote

Second question. If I get a new one I take it I just plug in time machine and it will port over the other machine? or is there some other transfer process?

[edit] This is not an invite to sell it at this point. If I do sell I will let people know through the correct process.

I don't know how much they would be worth, but I'd imagine it would be the sort of thing that would depreciate rather quickly unfortunately. Especially after a new one has been launched.

As for the second part, you can use migration assistant to copy from a time machine backup. I've never used it myself so I don't know how robust it is, but its where I'd start looking if I were you.

I am guessing I am going to have to tell Time Machine to back everything up (including Parallels VMs).

Yea I was thinking 500 for the machine as it hasn't deprecated that much and is still in very good condition. Lower spec refurbished ones go for same to higher price. So just wanted to be sure I wasn't a crazy asking price to begin with. :)

Yeah I think I'd be willing to pay around that if I were in the market for one.

You definitely need to back up all your user data, as for the system files, I think it depends on how you are porting to your new system. I suspect that migration assistent isn't all that picky as you're just copying untop of your current system. It might also be possible to do a restore from time machine install onto your new mac, in which case you need a full backup. Not 100% so if you have the space for it then you may as well do the full backup.

I think the fact that the new one is so much more expensive than the "old" one, the second hand prices won't be that low. If the replacement one was on sale at the same price (549) then the older ones would take a big hit in value.

For the spec you've described you probably should get most if not all you're asking. Minis' hold their value quite well, even old PPC G4 ones ( I still have one) are fetching 150 - 200 quid on Ebay. For anyone who doesn't need the ability to expand/modify their Mac, the Mini is a great little computer.

+1 - I'm always surprised by how well the Minis keep their value compared to pretty much all other Macs. You should be able to get around €500 for that spec as it compares favourably to the current base spec one too (more memory in yours too).
