Hi,been on here a while now and its been a very informative board.
    Just a few questions.
    1. I do 2 mins flat out on a rowing machine in the gym as a warm up. I ca get up to 620 meters in 2mins on the hardest setting. Just wondering is this good?

    2. I want to bulk up before the rugby season starts in sept,im on a weights programme and its goin fine. But would doing 50-100 pushups in sets everyday help me as well?

    3. I know my core isnt the greatest,i find it hard to train my core tbh :o
Would doing squats without any weights, the plank and side plank, and sit ups everyday help my core?

Hope i can get a few answers. Thanks :D

Rowing is based on 500m and Avg per 500,thats the way it's set out on the Erg and the way you should judge and time your rowing.620m in 2mins sounds like you went through the 500m mark around 1.45? which is ok,depends on weight and overall fitness also, for a rugby player you should be able to go sub 1.40 pretty easy for an all out 500m sprint.

If you want to bulk up you need to lift heavy weights,do big compound excersises, bench press, deadlifts, squats etc. doing pushups in between sets of weights is a great way to maximise your time in the gym and overall fitness, but if you want o bulk up,save your energy to lift heavy.

There are alot of different core workouts, try them all,the ones you hate the most and find the most painful,do them alot.

    cheers,Gav

Isn't that a bit broad, I'd imagine say a flyhalf would do a lot better than a prop. Also, wouldn't the machine in question have an impact. Hardest setting may not be equal, I imagine the setting its on affects the "speed" calculates you going at, which again may not be equal.

I just tend to ignore these figures between different machines.
I don't use the rower, but I imagine its no more accurate or reliable than the bikes etc

Well there is generally only 1 rower used for racing and world records and it's the concept rower, the majority of gyms have them and i have never seen another rower, but am aware they are out there.
Yes the OP did not provide info for his size, age, position,so the broad figure covers average size and fitness, say a male of 75kg and relatively fit.Again he asked was his time good and if OP you can get down around 1.40 and under for 500m then that is good imo

The "levels" on a Concept 2 are like gears on a bike. Some cycle at a stiffer gear and grind out distances, others at a lighter gear and spin faster.

The flywheel can also attract dust, and it does, so a 6 on one doesn't equal a 6 on the other. There's a Drag Factor which the monitor measures, which acts as your indicator of resistance. From what I recall around 115 for ladies, 125 for gents <75Kg and 135-140 for gents >75Kg are the drag factors that correlate best with water.

Starting Strength or CrossFit Football would give you bang for your buck in the strength/size department.
