Hi, I apologize if this is in a thread below but I have had little time to read them all.

I was just wondering if a college student that is finished for summer and cant find a job entitled to any state benefits?

I heard you must be 3 months out of education so even if that is through could I recieve anything in september or august?

    Thanks in advance

You need to be finished full-time education. If you are going back after the summer you are not entitled. The dole office will give you a letter to be stamped by your college to confirm you are not going back.

Short answer.. you're a student, not unemployed. You may be entitled to a grant but you're not going to get the dole. Don't expect loopholes either - I'm sure the dole office is tired of students looking for free money!

What is a student meant to survive on? The last grant was last month and then nothing until october. It was grand other summers when there were jobs but theres nothing this summer. Cant be relying on parents like.

Why not? When you have kids are you not going to put money aside for their third level education?

You could always go back as a mature student if you prefer to not rely on your parents.

Yes you can get the dole as soon as you're finished college

I'm a mature student, i don't get BTEA because i never claimed dole before, i was always working or travelling, I don't get the grant either because i had been to college before. I haven't been able to find work this summer, I'm 27 and I've been living off my savings from last summer all year. You think there's any chance I'd be able to claim dole for the summer?
