    Hey everyone...

Just wondering has anyone been in the same situation as myself and what the outcome was??!

Basically last Summer I signed on the dole after finishing 4th year in college. Due to the lack of jobs and in an effort to better myself I went back to do an MSc in September. Now here is where my problem lies. Having completed my final exams in May I now have no more classes but have to write a thesis over the Summer months to be handed in September. I have applied for both part time and graduate jobs but to no avail and I am unsure of whether I have any jobseeker entitlements as I am technically still a student. This even though I have the ability to work and would if there was a job opportunity. Today at the dole office they gave me a form to be filled in by the institution which I studied (an exit letter would not suffice!!!) and I must return next Tues with the same filled in. I am really worried that I do not qualify for it and don't know what I will do if they turn me down!!!

If anyone has been in the same situation I would really appreciate to hear the outcome good or bad.

    All the Best

    Acapella

Edit: I originally posted you will not qualify. That may not be correct.. if you are finished classes and are available for full-time employment you may qualify.

    from http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Operational...obseekall.aspx

    (d) Students completing theses/projects :

The legislation provides for disqualification while attending a full-time day course of study. Third level students who have completed final examinations but are completing theses or projects cannot be regarded as still attending a full-time day course of study and, therefore, cannot be disqualified under this provision. Entitlement may, however, be considered under the availability condition, - Section 141 (4)(c) depending on the degree of commitment to the project/thesis.

    (e) Postgraduate (research) students :

Students pursuing a course at Postgraduate level by research only, who do not have fixed lectures or holidays but who work "at their own pace" until the thesis is submitted should have their entitlement examined. Each case should be examined on an individual basis to ensure that the general availability/ GSW conditions are satisfied.

Thanks Balagan...you have no idea how much that has helped and has eased my mind some bit. Really really appreciate it.
