Man gets death threat by email
A CARLOW man who received a callous death threat via his email has appealed to people to be wary of what appears to be a new method of forcing vulnerable people to hand over huge sums of money.

The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was left in a very frightened state after he opened an email from a person who claimed to have been hired to kill him. And although the man realised that it was most likely a hoax claim, he was still left shaken by the fact that his life and the safety of his family were threatened.

The email stated that: “You have no need of knowing who I am or where I am from. I have been paid some ransom in advance to terminate you with some reasons listed to me by my employer. It’s someone I believe you call a friend; I have followed you closely for a while now and have seen that you are innocent of the accusations he leveled against you. Do not contact the police or try to send a copy of this to them.”

The email demanded the sum of $30,000 or else the Carlow man would be murdered. The man then replied to the email asking what he was to do next. A swift reply was received, demanding that a reduced figure of $5,000 be wired immediately to buy him more time. The email also warned him that any “silly moves by you will cost you your life and that of your family. I do not play games”.

The shaken victim of this nasty piece of blackmail told The Nationalist: “You know it’s far-fetched, but at the same time there is this threat to you and your family and I think that maybe someone who is after having a row with someone might fall for it and send money in a panic. I have since gone to the gardaí and I have also established that the address in Spain, where I was supposed to send the money, does exist. The gardaí are now going to track the IP address on the computer that was used and that way they can track down whoever sent the message.”

I'm sorry but i laughed hard at that bit.

    Hello super-Rush.

I have been paid some money in advance to terminate you with some reasons listed to me by my employer. It’s someone I believe you call a friend here in After Hours. I have followed you closely for a while now and have seen that you are guilty of the accusations he leveled against you.

You must wire €30,000 euro's to me immediately or I will conclude this contract with my employer by terminating your life. Only by doing this can you give me sufficient reason to allow you to live.

Do not contact the police or try to send a copy of this to them as I will know and the consequences shall be dire.

Respond immediately to arrange details of the wire transfer of the requested amount.

    Well, it's worth a try.

I understand that you would be a bit freaked out, in fairness I would be too, but IMO the best response to this would be "I have a plan, it involves you putting your head into a wood chipper, best of luck, love and much hugs, x"

Fook these twits that try to scare ppl from their cash, have had elderly relations where travellers were "cleaning the gutters" but ended up siphoning over €30k from them, dopey relations were too daft to say anything about it, but goes to show that scamming is everywhere.

I would suggest simply informing the emailer that you have noted their IP address, have passed the info onto the Gards and have also recently found that your passport has the star of David on the inlay :P

Scum like this need to be dealt with :)

I felt sorry for my Korean housemate. He got his first 419 scam a week or two ago. He came running into the living room with his laptop showing me the email saying how someone wanted to give him $2 million dollars! He wasnt pleased when I told him it was a very common scam. Felt bad for him coz he's pretty broke at the moment and saw this as the answer to all his problems!!

    Bleedin muppets!

There was a time when people would send death threats by using cuttings from newspapers. I guess this is the age we live in.
