Rear Reverse Light

    Hi,

Just noticed last night, that one of the rear reverse lights (think that's what it's called, the clear one) is gone on the back my Mk5 Golf.

Could somebody tell me where to get one in South Dublin, please and more importantly tell me are they easy to replace by myself?

I've no experience with cars, which is probably quite obvious.

    Thanks a million.

Take off the lens, and check it's not just a blown bulb. If so replace it.

I think I might have described the wrong one :-s

Its the white light in the middle of the brake lights on the bottow right side of the boot door. (the white circular one on the door)

I don't think the front lens comes off.

AFAIK theres only one.But the lens doesn'tcome off.you have to get at it from the inside. There should be a cover in the boot lid

One bulb? The brake lights are ok. It's easy enough to do so?

    One reverse light.

If it does have two then its usually easy enough; just a case of maybe opening a panel to reveal the back of the light units, then figuring out which one is the correct bulb and twisting it out.

You can usually pick those bulbs up anywhere, even your local petrol station. Halfords will fit it for you if youre unsure about it.

Cool thanks a mill. Does it matter what watt it is are are they all standard?

    And is the fitting standard?

The bulbs are standard for year and model of vehicle.

Go to halfords and they will help you to pick out the correct bulb and for a relatively small charge, fit the bulb.

Mk5 only has 1 reverse light, I think the fog light is in the same place on the opposite side.

Fitting could catch you out actually, find out if the pins on the bulb are straight or off-set!

Few times those little bastards have caught me!

caught me too when I got new rear lights for the clio..
they were offset and were meant to be straight(wasn't going buying new orange bulbs!) , they're tough bulbs I have to say..cos I got them in and working eventually, not gonna be coming out too handy though :D

Of 10/12 bulbs on the civic I reckon 4 are offset and they aren't suppose to be :D

This probably sounds ridiculous to you lads, but is there not one reverse light in either side? :-s

No, only the 1 is required, some have 2 some have 1.

Only one side isn't working so on mine so, does that mean there is 2?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,822 ✭✭✭✭EPM

No - it means on one side of the car there is a reverse light, on the other side in the same spot there is a fog light.

I'd take from that that your reverse light is working. Are you getting the bulb malfunction indicator up on your dash?

So that means one side is working! There is only one on a mkv golf.

I'm a disaster. The two circular white lights on the back, only one comes on (the left one) when I go into reverse. So is it not a rear reverse light so far?

Thanks a mill for the help so far.

Your lights are working correctly. The right one is a fog light.
