    Dear all,

    God put the desire in my heart to create a community site called 'Our Daily Bread.'

    It allows one to interact, share, find out what's on and to help each of us, on our road to God.

    I would really appreciate it if people can take a few moments, at your leisure, to log on and experience the site.

    The site is in beta mode.

    Any feedback/comments are most welcome.

    As children of God and in a time of economic uncertainty, I feel that this site can be a daily source of enlightenment and Truth.

    http://www.ourdailybread.ie

    God bless,

    Ciarán.

    It is a good basis to build upon. However, you have to be mindful that you literally have a few seconds to hook a visitor before they decide to visit another site. (This study might be of interest with regards to understanding users and their habits and designing your page real estate around them.)

    With this in mind, I think it is fair to say that the home page is far too busy with widgets. When the information is analysed there is nothing in the way of original content. Indeed, most of the content on your homepage (news items, eBible link, Saint of the Day, whatever) takes the visitor away from your site. In short, daily bread isn't yet providing anything that a visit to catholicnewsagency.com or picking up a bible wouldn't already provide.

    Finally, while the mission statement informs us that this site is "A community platform that allows you to engage, share and celebrate God's presence" it seems to be a community without a voice or the immediate ability to air opinion.

    ======

    Simplify the page by getting rid of the widgets and replace them with colourful, concise and targeted original information. For example, if you are carrying a story you could post a picture with an accompanying headline and a short introduction to the story.

    A few other thoughts. Move the eBible link - it's currently occupying a prominent position on your homepage that could be better give over to something from the community. Would you consider doing your own podcast and build your own listenership from scratch? Are you maximising you profile through social networks?

    By way of comparison, if you are thinking about starting a blog community you could do a lot worse than emulating something like Internet Monk. If you are thinking about a mixture of Magazine and blogging community then Patrol Magazine is an excellent yardstick to measure your site against.
