Can this fee be paid in installments or does it have to be up front?

    To any other UCC-er's:

I emailed UCC about this a few weeks ago and they said:
It is proposed that the fee for the Post grad Diploma in Education will be 5820 again this year. Students are liable for the fees in two instalments. The first instalment is due at registration and the 2nd instalment is due in early January 2011.

Then the €1500 (or I've heard it's €1650 for UCC?) services fee on top of that.

It is, but at least it qualfies you to do something. I did a good Primary degree and Master's after it and until I completed the PGDE I was 'qualified' rather than qualified to do something.

€6k is a lot of money for any student to lay their hands on but it is important for people to be honest about their subjects' suitability for teaching too. The reality is that notwithstanding what I wrote in the first paragraph the PGDE merely opens doors but it is one's subjects that ultimately govern potential employability.

The PGDE is a very expensive luxury if one's subjects are very marginal in a second-level context.

Does anyone know where is the 'cheapest' place to do a HDip/PGDE?
Part-time fees seem to be astronomical too.
Also does anyone know what the chances of jobs are like (science teaching?)
    Cheers

Is it cheaper to do it in the uk? I hear that they actually give you money to do the pgce in certain subjects that they are short of teachers . It's worth looking into . I know a couple of people who got in to uk with 2:2 degrees too.
