Sky cancellation query

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

Thinking of cancelling sky (in favour of UPC). If I do so will my Sky card still work in the box (without the package channels)? The reason I ask is I am currently receiving a freebie on a subscription channel through sky which I would have to pay for via cable.

    Many thanks.

    what channell?
to see what channels you can get without a subscription (if you cancel ) remove the viewing card and re boot the sky box.

Sky card wont work on upc box (if thats what you are asking .

    Hi John,

I'm not talking about using the sky card in the USB box, but using the two boxes together.

The signal for the channel in question, which is an independent channel (would rather not say which one, though nothing dodgy :D) is sent to my current sky card. So what I'm asking is basically would the card still be able to receive the signal if I cancel my sky sub? I'm guessing not.

It's more for curiosity now as found out today USB only offer the basic TV service in my area, which means I won't be switching anytime soon.

    ooooh now i get you .. ;);)

I don't know what way they work so can't say if you would or wouldn't still be able to access it.

No bother John. When I referred to USB I of course meant UPC, that's what late night posting does to you.:D

Yes, it will keep working no problem, I had a mate who wanted to subscribe to Setanta about 18 months ago and they were unable to issue cards at the time, (You needed to subscribe to Sky and use that card) I asked the operator would an expired card work and she said "sure we'll try it and see!" I duly dug out a card that was expired 3 years, sent the signal to it and hey presto, worked a treat, I had a happy mate then who had his PGA golf to watch then! (For six months till they went belly up!)
So keep your sky box and card, it will work fine!! Them 900 channels will make you go blind!!
