6 month car rental for work

Looking to get a 6 month rental for work like an Astra / Focus class. It would be hired by me as an employee for a company if that matters, and used pretty much only for work purposes.

Anyone have any ideas of cost for this roughly or exact /month? I will do some research myself but just thinking if anyone has a quick fire answer. Would I be better off going to the traditional rental car companies or are there any other routes?

I red somewhere (here I think) that you have to rent 30 days and then return, otherwise it is considered a lease? Is this correct?

Anyone knows any good place, feel free to recommend it, any help greatly appreciated.

I have an Astra under my bum which is a 6 months rental from Enterprise. They are considered the "corporate" hire company for Ireland.

Every 30 days I sign a new rental document otherwise its a lease. Easy really. There is nearly always an office nearby and they open Saturday mornings as well so no excuse.

Costwise my company purchasing manager looks after it. It's being hired through our leasing company. My job is only fixed term so they had not considered a lease.

Leasing for 6 months in near to impossible unless you want to throw silly money down the drain anyway.

There are a few guys on here who can help you out who work in leasing. Im sure they will arrive in onto this thread sooner or later.

BTW, I have an Astra 3 door Sporthatch SXI, Diesel with Air Con. They are out there, you just have to work hard to find them otherwise you WILL be given a petrol entry level sh*tbox.

    Focus / Astra is around €600 / €700 + VAT per month.

Enterprise will make you change every 28 days, but you'll get a nice car. Avis will leave you in the same car for 6 months, but it will be a 2007 with high mileage. Not sure about the others - check their websites for long term as it's ususally a special section rather than normal reservations.

If you are in Galway, Windsor might be able to sort something out long term.

Rental is about the only suggestion I can come up with.

Yes I am in Galway, this is exactly the sort of info I was looking for, the sort of stuff you can only know from experience - very helpful!

Would 6-700 roughly cover the insurance then as well if you know R.O.R? Are there any other costs that "you would not think of" if you know what I mean. No I don't mean fuel :D

Won't include insurance, haven't a clue what that would be, but it's probably expensive.

Does your company have a fleet policy that they could add you on to? It's very rare we'll organise insurance and even then it's only ever on short term rentals for people who aren't covered under fleet policies (contractors mainly).

Might be worth contacting www.arachas.ie to see if they do insurance for 6 months and compare that cost to the insurance offered by the rental company - if you can't get covered under a company policy.

Double check whether servicing/maintenance/tyres is included. Wouldn't be an issue with Enterprise as you'll be changing car every month but if you are in the same car for 6 months you don't want to be stuck with the cost of tyres or a service on top of the rental.

To be fair I have dealt with them numerous times and they are very difficult to deal with. I had one car which was only a lead in to them sourcing me a diesel and it was ok but they gave me another car with no headlights and then told me I need to bring it to another location to get another car even though I had driven all the way across Dublin passed two other locations to get that car.

The one they gave me then had a buckled alloy and Im still fielding phone calls from Advance Pitstop because I didnt give them a Purchaser order number. WHY THE FVCK WOULD I HAVE IT? Enterprise are then accusing me of brigning it to the garage without permission but the girl who told me is on holidays so Im guilty until she comes back.

Sour taste in my mouth over it actually.

I hope this thread is not too old to update?

Just thought i''d update if anyone is interested in doing the same thing as I am going to. Got quotes today for
    - 28 days at the time rental
    - Class C (Focus/Golf)
    - Unlimited miles
    - With / without insurance

Prices vary a lot to say the least

    Excluding insurance
    €590 -1000

    Including Insurance
    € 380-650

Pricing looks a bit strange but these were the costs I was quoted, the without insurance option was the most expensive. One particular company is way better on price, that is who gave me the 380 cost. I was surprised it was that low actually.

This is for renting as an individual.

Wouldnt that 380 be a much better option than actually buying a new focus?
I would assume there has been a mixup re with/without insurance as surely if they re providing cover it has to cost more.

Mick, sorry I should have clarified it a bit. It looks a bit strange but figures are correct :-)

I called 10 different places and drew up a table. What you see is what the prices range between for a) ex and b) incl insurance

And however strange it may seem the insured option came out the cheapest of all the options I checked but in general you would be right of course.

Ex: One place for example quoted me €590ex insurance and €650 incl

I would have thought that as well that 380 is better than buying. Surprised about that low price to be honest.
