as i am a much lover of classic cars in the midlands ,i would just like people to be aware of some of the scum there is out there. i sold 2 claccic car projects to a chap who said he was going to resotre them. i later found out they went for stock car racing.trawling through some our your fine posts today i found some members who by seeing their lorrys and yards are in to this stupid hobbie..i was wondering is there any one else who got stung by this lot.. sean:(

It's a shame if the car is a genuine solid example.

If the car is a rot-box beyond saying, it's no harm. Also, if they are stripped carefully before racing, they can give up quite a few spares that can be sold on.

As an almost related aside, quite a few people I've seen with classic cars think that their car is totally mint if they can't see any rust on the outside. Also, people have quite daft notions of what some of the cars are worth. I looked at a few Escorts both before and after buying my own. A few I looked at were described as "show cars", only for me to discover structurally unsafe cars (filler on the strut tops, A-Pillars rotten). I also looked at a "1600 Sport", that according to the chassis plate, was a 1300 low compression.......

Edit - OP, did they pay you for the car? If they did, it's now theirs to do with as they please. If not, why did you leave the car out of your place without getting paid in full?

both cars ( p5b rover and a s2xj6 which was mannual )were paid for but the agreement on sale was i had the choise of buying them back when restored to there former glory.to which i taught was a very sneaky underhanded move by them.

sorry about your dilemma but you sold them & i have heard that before about buying back?? would never happen move on me man, the guy who bought them now owns them so he can do what he wants with them, i thought by your thread title that someone stole your car or something, sorry but thats my 2 cents worth!

well I indend to be the last owner of my car so it will not happen to me. Even the lads who sold me my car knew I was going to look after it and he let it go a bit cheaper cause I was in the same club and had planed to look afrer her.

Its a same to abuse any classic, but then I still see lads rallying MK2 escots and wonder how many they destroy.

At least the Rally scene brought a revival for certain cars like the MK2 with replacement panels, preformance parts etc. You can now build a complete car from the chassis up in fiberglass. :)

That was a pity about that MK1 Golf diesel that ended up as a movie prop last year.

Lads, sean53 made a gentleman's agreement with the buyer, who promised to look after the cars. Of course he is upset when he finds out the cars were trashed / banger raced.

And no, there is nothing he can do about it. Except vent here. Give him a break.

Where were they raced, surely England as not much banger racing happens in ireland, well the south at least. There was a Hearses and Limos meeting in Nutts corner in the north at the weekend.
XJs are/were hugely popular bangers. P5Bs usually end up in Classic meetings these days.
A few Banger lads post on here, presumably keeping an eye out for cars, and iv seen photos of some cars posted here on the abandoned classics thread on Ovalchat also.
