The writers have always said there’s a big clue in the Pilot episode of LOST.

    Anyone know what it was?

was that the smoke monster causing the plane engine to explode ?

you can see it if you slow the scene down..

clue as to what- i'm not sure, anyway the writers didn't have any idea what the smoke monster was back then.

Definitely wasn't the smoke monster on the beach in the pilot episode, confirmed by the writers. And yeah the writers didn't know at that stage what that it was a smoke monster anyway, it was just a thing making noise in the trees.

They said before that that was just a coincidence with the CGI. Wasn't supposed to be the smoke monster. We know now anyway it was just the electromagnetism when Desmond didn't push the button... like that makes anymore sense than the monster!

I actually looked into the whole hidden clue in the Pilot story a few weeks back. It turns out that it was just a myth, and the writers denied that there was any hidden clue in the Pilot.

You could argue that the backgammon scene with Walt and Locke if not a clue was at least big foreshadowing for what was to come...eventually.
