Looking forward to it. Lifting well earlier this week so touch wood there'll be some PBs on the day.

Guys if anyone thinks Weightlifting is only for hyoooge powerful monsters we've a girl, Rosie, entering, who's just started out and is now hungry for competition. She's going to be snatching around 17-20Kg and jerking about 30Kg. So really anyone can get involved in the sport.

Hope to see some boardsies out there tomorrow.

    Competition starts at 1pm.

    Colm

    I should be around.

I have to squeeze in a gym session (squeeze into the Gym) But I'll be down for a bit anyway.

Well done to all the competitors and organisers yesterday. Good to meet a few new people too. Few photos below, excuse the terrible quality...I didn't think using the flash would go down too well under the circumstances!

Nice shots. That last one seeing 145 in the air is kinda scary!

That was my first time ever going to an event like that and for a spectator it was great. There was a very relaxed and warm atmosphere with everyone cheering on the lifters. Not sure I'll ever comprehend guys barely over 10 stones snatching 100kg...

    It was a good day.
    Learned some stuff.

Think my highlights were watching Cathal Byrd warming up (the Speed....) and seeing that 16 year old MAN Illustrate the importance of being strong in Olympic Weightlifting whilst taking the Junior Jerk and Total records with a smile on his face all the way.

The one of Cathal cleaning it while being 30-40kg lighter is scarier again...

Wayne Healey was shockingly fast under the clean, German jerked 145 like it was nothing at eighty something kilos, "Olegs the destroyer" (I've decided that's his nickname) was scary strong as always, Cathal Byrd is a feckin' loon (went to jerk 146 in the middle of losing consciousness), Marty jerked 130 odd at 16 years old (bastard!). I blew a gasket and very very nearly bombed out (feckin missed two snatches behind. never missed behind before. DoH!).

Never seen a lifter feed off an audience like that 16 year old... an extra few hundred people in the audience would probably give him an extra few KGs on the bar too.

Interesting how different peoples approaches are... I'd have to be completely focused on the lift and not see anything else around me, certainly not have a laugh with the crowd.

Matthew is an absolute legend, he was actually a little subdued on Saturday, normally he gives a much more animated performance :D

Himself and James Small are serious young talent to watch over the next few years.

Cheers for the photos cmyk, they're great!!

    !

Is that the lad in cork who was chatting away while snatching 90kg?

Can't remember but probably - big lad, could pass for early 20's, dark hair and a Nordy accent :D

Matthew Cleans, hits the bottom starts a slow recovery.

    Crowd: UP, UP, UP!

    Matthew Jerks it.

    Matthew: "And AWAY!"

    :D

That happened whilst breaking the Junior C&J record.

Great day had by Team CrossFit.

I fluffed Rosie's first lift by shouting "Yes" when she got it, so she put the weight down, d'oh. Then she proceeded to set PBs in her snatch and jerk.

I knew Dee would do well, despite her nerves warming up (Clean grip snatches anyone?) There was about 5 people around her giving her advise but once they left and it was just her and Tommy she was in flying form. PB in the jerk too I believe.

Eamonn had some of his best snatches so far, and we'll get his squats up for the rest of the year. Jimminy set a new PB in the snatch and narrowly missed a second on his 3rd lift. Ed had a dose of the nerves on the snatch but came through nicely too. Garv was just a bit rushed and that cost him.

I'd a mixed back. My snatches were harried and an UGLY first pull let me down. I took the cleans a bit lightly and that's why they felt heavy, but the jerks went nicely to plan.

Been back working on my first pull and it's already paying off.
