Inverter Board Advice

So the backlight of my Acer 2920 stopped working a while back. I knew it could either be the inverter or the backight bulb because the display worked when I plugged in an external monitor.

So I decided to get a free quote from a place in town to get this fixed. They Just rang me there and told me that the inverter is gone and that it would cost 116 to fix.
But a quick google of the part in question shows that I could get the part for much cheaper

My question is: how difficult is it to install an inverter board?
I've opened up the screen before and know where the part in question is and I've replaced and fixed a couple of minor electronics problems before so I'm kinda half confident I can do it.

    What do ye reckon?

Everywhere i read people say it's simple and walk throughs using pictures make it look easy. I am attempting one in about an hour for a hp laptop so i'll post back and tell you how i found it but tbh if they are charging 116 euro and the laptop is probly worth 300 second hand? i'd just do it myself

What make is the HP laptop?
I have an old Compaq presario v5000 for fixing but i dunno is it the backlight or invertor. the screen is dark but colours are fine.

I hate looking at these , cause its always the one you dont order !! Can you not just get both ???
In fact on my last laptop i think i got the whole screen assembly (including plastics!) for under €150 so it was well worth pricing up.

So we're thinking the DIY route?

I'm thinking the same.. Just the awkwardness of getting it back from them now...

Can anybody tell me if the part I found on Ebay guaranteed to be the right one?

How did you get on Romano?

I took front off screen for a look last night, was hoping that it would be a case of a loose cable as laptop took a fall but no luck. The inverter seems very simple to replace, two screws holding it in and a cable on either end. Not sure about backlight though.
does anyone know anyway of telling what part is gone? and is it a big job to replace back light? it seems to be a bulb along bottom of screen. i powered on laptop when cover was off and bulb lit up so i'm guessing it's just the inverter.

Its super easy to replace. Did it last week and the hardest part was getting the screen bezel off! You can't really go wrong replacing the inverter itself though, just be careful with the ribbon when removing it thats all.
