How do you eat sardines? I used to love them on homemade bread with big slices of cheese melted on top, so the sardines were pretty much hidden between the bread and the cheese, but now I've given up bread and I don't know how to eat them! I normally eat tinned fish on salads but somehow sardines in salad doesn't sound as nice to me, with the boney bits and all.

    Mashed up on oatcakes?
I had lemon & parsley smoke mackerel (Lidl) last night and it was delicious, if you're looking for another oily fish alternative.

Tabasco or salsa. Cuts the oiliness and gives a kick.

Hah, I remember I used to do that as a kid actually! But somehow I didn't even think of that :D

Thanks for the suggestions, they all sound good and I'll definitely be trying them

+1 on the tomato sauce. gotta have it.

Don't forget the lime!!! If you cut it into very small slices, big enough that you can taste the limey goodness, but small enough that they can blend in without destroying your tastebuds...:D

    EDIT: Shazbot. I'm hungry now.

Maybe it is just me but you can get sardine pate (or make it easily) - I can happily eat it all by itself...
