I suppose, if you have failed, your main options are repeating or a PLC course.

But have hope, you never know, you could have done a lot better than you think.

you still have time to change your courses on cao.ie, you can always repeat but even the thought of that makes me sick!
If you want to change your courses, do it before july 1st, thats the deadline

Look at your CAO course choices again keeping your top 5 say and root around for degrees that do not require a pass in maths as an entry requirement. e.g there a fair few in UCD >>>>> https://myucd.ucd.ie/admission/entry_ug.ezc

maybe do a plc course next year that won't need a lot of work but on the side start doing a lot of work on maths and maybe just repeat your maths exam next year.. just do pass as pretty much any course will accept a pass maths.. even the computer courses and the likes usually accept a B3 - just clear it up with your school that you'll be allowed to sit the exam in the school next year even though you won't be a student...

that'd be the best option if only need the requirement - and you'll have a PLC course under your belt too so

hey ? em about the honours maths? i know that a guy in my school last year failed higher english but still got into college on compensatory points or some ****? i really dont know much about this , but could be worth looking into?

don't some colleges have a separate maths exam which you can take to meet minimum requirements, I know some of the IT's do anyway?

im the exact same...but depending on what you wana do, some colleges offer a seperate maths exam in august thats kinda middling standard, harder than ordinary but easier than higher! i wana do engineering..i know that dit & nuig do the maths exam for ther engineering courses..what courses do you wana do?

Yeah some colleges do that. If you fail an honours subject you can count it as a pass if you compensate by getting a B instead of a C in another subject or else an extra higher C. But the CAO don't give you points for the higher E. Tis only the college themselves for entry requirements.

    Hi,

I just figured I'd shed some light on this..
To my knowledge you must pass maths to get into most courses in most colleges (even if the course doesn't actually need math.. go figure)

Even with a PLC, you will still need to repeat the maths to meet matriculation/entry requirements.

I know this because a friend of mine ended up i the same position last year. Even though she wanted to study music, she still needs the pass in math.

    :)

As far as I know you don't need Maths to get into Arts in UCD or Maynooth, as long as you get the points you are fine. Plenty of courses actualy like English, Drama etc etc.

And if you do an Arts course or whatever, you can go on to specialise in what you want. You didn't specify but there's always a back way.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. I'll take them all under consideration. I've a feeling that because the exams were so easy there gonna destroy me in the marking scheme, after I went to all that trouble to get qs 3+6 on P1 right :(

Unfortunately, yes. Just don't be so hard on yourself. You may have passed it. And Science courses accept D3s in honours maths.

Then make sure you apply for business at level 6 on the CAO where some business courses like in DIT ask for an OD3 in maths. You can transfer to the degree then after 2 years.

I do ordinary!! But thanks for the reply. Just wondering if I get enough points is there a way of booking the place for the next year? Say if the course is 415 this year and you get 415. then you just repeat maths but that year the course goes to 420 what happens!!? :)

So I'd be able to transfer to Maynooth then? What about points? or will that matter?

if the business course in maynooth looks for an OC3 in maths but you get an OD1 then even if you get 600 points the CAO computer will not want to know you as far as business in MUI Maynooth is concerned. The CAO computer is heartless

So if the points go up by like 5 over what I have, and was sufficient for the year I sat the exams I'll have to repeat for a second year :P

no you will be able to transfer to either the 2nd or 3rd year of business / marketing degrees in Dublin Institute of Technology. That's the way they have the system set up. You would have to talk to NUI Maynooth independently about transferring but you could lose a year and there's no guarantee. The list of courses you can transfer to is on www.qualifax.ie if you enter business in DIT and flick through the courses

yes and you would have to keep on repeating maybe indefinitely if you keep missing out by 5 points. Tis all about doing some deep research before 30 june so you have all possibilities covered come the cao 'results' in august

You only need maths for certain courses. It depends on what you want to do. If you want to do Arts, English, Drama in Maynooth or NUIG, then maths is not an entry requirement.

On the otherhand, if you want to do science, nursing, medicine, or anything like that then it is. You have to check it out with the colleges you're applying to and the courses you want to do.

So many people don't realise that failing maths doesn't mean failing the Leaving Cert and start freaking out about it. It entirely depends on the colleges and the courses.

If you want to do engineering and get the points for it, Maynooth hold a special exam sometime in August for anyone that got the course, but failed honours maths to give them a chance to get the required grade.

    http://admissions.nuim.ie/school_leavers/maths_engin.shtml

As for anything else, don't go changing your CAO about before checking whether or not you need maths to get into a course. Even then, hold off and leave your top few choices as they are just in case you do pass! Maybe put a few "safety nets" at the bottom of your form, but definitely don't assume anything!

The thing is I dont need maths for Trinity Maynooth or UCD its only points stopping me there. Hopefully I'll pass and get DCU which is my first. Only need a D3 :D and I reckon the points will be between 460 and 500
