Advice for unfortunate situation

Had my test booked for this Friday, and was going to use my mum's Volvo V70(was very comfortable with it). Unfortunately the airbag is not 100% and thus it appears as a warning on the dashboard. Our local mechanic told me it'll be a week minimum before it can be replaced.:(

As I'll be automatically failed if I try it in the Volvo, I had to rent another car from the ISM. I'm going to give the test a go anyway, but my hopes have been dashed since I'll have very little experience with the new car.(clutch control etc)

Anyone ever had to deal with this and managed to pass?

Second hand information here - I still haven't done my test, but my friend passed under similar circumstances.

I don't know the ins and outs, but the night before her test her dad's car wouldn't start. She took it in her instructor's and had 3 grade 2s.

At the very least, this proves that it's possible!

    Best of luck on Friday.

Pull out the clocks and pop out the bulb for it.

Can't see the light, can't mark you down for it.

Mods, is it ok to say that? Cos as far as I know, even main dealers tell people that when they have SRS issues?

    Did you try another mechanic?
Or give a Volvo dealer a shout and explain your situation.
All you can get is a No so worth a try.

If not, best of luck Friday.:D

I also heard you are more likely to pass if you take the test in an instructors car because it proves you got lessons with a good instructor.

I had a driving instructor tell me that I wasn't a bad driver but "he just wasn't going to pass me this time" and that I should get some lessons rather than just reapplying. If I had rented the instructors car he probably would have passed me.

That's BS, loads of people pass in their own car!!!

Pop dat bulb OP. No need to get another car your not used too. srs airbag light is a retarded thing to fail on. Theres still plenty of cars on the road with no airbags sure, they can't fail them!

Duh. I know plenty who did. All I'm saying is driving testers might be biased and some would show preference to people who take their test in an instructor car.

    1. Take it to Volvo and get them to switch the airbag light off in the meantime. They should be able to do this wit ha computer hook up.
DO NOT attempt to get the dashboard off by yourself unless you really know what you are doing. Modern cars are seriously complicated.

    2. If this cannot be done then take the instructors car for the whole day or the day before, to get usd to it. Drive around for a few hours, do plenty of hillstarts etc and you should be OK.
