There will be another course starting before the end of the year.

http://www.iaa.ie/index.jsp?p=98&n=382 has information on the format of the course.

Good to hear it's opening up again here soon, don't really want to move to the UK unless I have to :)

JammyC: To be sure that you know when recruitment is starting, email HR in the IAA with your contact details.

The week before they advertise the next recruitment they'll send you a letter to tell you where and when it's advertised so that you can apply.

visit their website or send in you cv with a cover letter (Recruiters always appreciate a cover letter with a cv - it looks good) :)

I believe they are recruiting another batch of student controllers in the near future (2nd hand info from a mate who works for em) Only problem is particularly in the present climate there will be a hell of a lot of applications (in the thousands) for what will amount to about 20 positions. So the odds would be long on getting accepted :(

There's no point sending the IAA a copy of your CV for an ATC position prior to the recruitment opening.

They categorically don't hold CVs on file and will only accept your contact details to add to the mailing list for when they re-open applications. Adding your details to this mailing list doesn't count as an application either.

:-) I did, I got it and then turned it down .....You can prepare for it to some degree. Cant remember the order of interviews, but think 1st interview was meet and greet chat on why interested and probing how much you know about ATC and aviation general e.g runway directions and prevailing winds etc but very basic. There was apptitude testing including written and computer that tested hand eye coordination and reaction and reasoning etc etc, also another interview to follow which got a lil more in depth. Mine was a good ten years ago and all based in the Gresham hotel. Good experience and well worth preparing for. I believe outta 10000 applicants they took 26ish...

I was in the same position as yaeger and turned it down when offered last September. I really didn't like the contract that they had on offer, as well as a few other items that I wasn't satisfied with.

The process for me started in 2007 with the initial application and invitation to an Aptitude test. This was a ~1-2 hour session where it had a number of different items based on maths, patterns, and word based tests. There's no pass "mark" but simply if you have the aptitude or not from what I was told before hand.

If you are successful in the aptitude test you are then invited back to the Gresham for a panel interview with three interviewers basically asking you the questions yaeger mentioned. They have some time speed and distance questions which are about as strenuous as they get.

If you get past the first interview you will be called back for the final interview, I believe in the batch I applied in there were 100 called. This is another three person panel interview in the IAA HQ with things being a little more challenging. The interview is more a typical job interview with an aviation theme. Compared to what I was taught in college portraying yourself as a team player and having leadership didn't really go down well with one interviewer and I had to backtrack to show I can work successfully on my own. It may have just been the person I got on the day that caused that issue.

From the 100 people they typically take 24 candidates and make a formal offer to them, with 6 on the backup list. They did increase this to 36 2 years ago with a further 24/36 again last year (not sure exactly).

Best of luck if you do apply. If you want the name of the person in HR who typically deals with the Student Controller Programme (SCP) send me a PM.

22 students were taken on in most recent batch which commenced last year, they are currently doing their basic training in Shannon.Rumour has it that the next class will be recruited by the end of the year, nothing definite yet though. It rougly takes 2-2&half years to obtain your full ATCO licence, with constant exams and assesments along the way.Do e-mail the IAA hr department expressing your interest, however they won't entertain a CV at this point. You want any more info,PM me
