    Hello,

Long time follower, first time poster.

I am planning to build in the next 3-4 months and am still undecidied between a traditional block build or going for a SIP house. I have received a quote from a Galway company who manufacture the SIP panels (Which has come down in the last few months!) but have yet to get a quote for a block build.

I was just wondering if anyone has gone with the SIP build and if so was it worth it?

    Thanks.

By SIP (Structurally Insulated panels) are you specifically referring to the Polyeurethane filled OSB sandwich panels. These are often confused with closed panel timber frame, which uses PAnelvent or softboard outside, twin studs inside 235mm plus thick and osb inside. Usually filled with metac or cellulose.

    Hi Beyondpassive,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. By SIP (Structurally Insulated panels) I am referring to the Polyeurethane filled OSB sandwich panels and not the closed panel timber frame.

mredbird & passive - I think you are mixing the different panel types up: the panels mredbird is referring to are not made using any type of expanding foam, e.g. Polyurethane.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
