    Hi Lads,
Was wondering does anyone know much about the T4 transporter syncro's.
Went to look at one today. She was 2.5 4WD
Nice van but the only fault I could find was a weird knocking when I was slowing down before and during braking.
Would I be right in saying that there might be a problem with the viscous coupling? Or would it just be a worn bush etc?

Best bet would be to ask on the Synchro forum, http://www.syncronauts.org.uk/ or one of the specialists linked from there.

If a VCU is gone, they seize and you would get tyre scrub and heavy steering on tight turns.

I've seen T25 Synchros play off road, amazing performance for a van.

    Sorry, only saw this today.

If the VC is borked you either have no 4WD or too much of it, i.e. rubbing in corners, stiffening, etc.

What you don't get is knocking.
That could be anything from loose gearbox mounts to CV joints, the propshaft or just a simple bushing somewhere.

The T4 Syncro isn't particularly great offroad now. It will get you out of wet grass, but that's about it, due to pretty dismal ground clearance, bad weight distribution and poor articulation.

A rear difflock was available as an extra ...that does make a bit of a difference, but basically the T4 syncro is just an all weather road vehicle

    Cheers for the replies Lads,
I think its just a cv joint alrite but thought it might have been somthing more serious in the 4WD system.

I went for the standard 2WD version in the end as I had heard that the syncro's 4WD is'nt great.

    Thanks, Richie:)
