Three a broadband joke

    hi guys,

I'm wondering if some of you find "Three" a big joke when it comes to download. Beside the "black spots" that seems to be a good excuse from "three" employees to avoid criticism, I'm experiencing speed drops to 0ko/s only with files, let say > 100MB...
it happened all the time on rapidshare.com "fair enough", but when it comes to linux mirrors I get a little bit grumpy... It's impossible for me to download any of the linux ISO files...
I used a download manager to get a "resuming" option for my downloads but even this doesn't work... and it's not like I loose the connection not at all, I can still surf and even download other stuffs but when it comes to resume the download of a big file it just not do anything and even end up to be impossible to download that file again...

So.. I'm wondering if "three" do some sort of limitations of the capability to download and try to make it very hard for us to download big files, coz they think that only "piracy copyright" use big files (divx, games, etc..) well when it comes to open source projects, like a linux distribution, it is completly legal, everyone is aware of that fact.

Well.. I'm only guessing but they sell a 15GB/month for €19.99/month and expect every one to use it for facebook and emails... it's a really weird behavior.

is there anyone with the same symptoms ?
    speed drop ?
    unable to resume download ?
    download freeze ?

I have to look seriously for a proper broadband provider, but where I live there is no cable then no upc, and I don't have a phone line.. that's left me with satellite option.. anyone knows a good deal with broadband satellite in county cork ?

    thanks everyone,
    mazzaru

some parts of cork have excellent wireless broadband, eg http://www.digitalforge.ie/ and Permanet and Nova http://www.novanetworks.ie/ and Munster Broadband

The word you're looking for is Three, not 3G. 3G is a technology and also the name of a phone shop, it is no more a mobile phone service supplier, network, or Internet provider than The Carphone Warehouse.

I actually find a way to download one ISO file today. I used aria2 and a metalink file. Multi mirrors download seems to by pass the issue of speed drop or frozen downloads ! torrents also use multi source download but you might get some problem just by using a p2p network (unfortunately).

next challenge, the livedvd of gentoo linux: 2GB !

thanks Sponge Bob for your links, I'll investigate.
jor el, indeed, you right. The Carphone Warehouse is THE joke.

my contract with "Three" is over next month, I'm glad, such a relief !

I use to get disconnected alot during peak times unless i was downloading or had a radio station open but it's not as bad as it was last week. As for downloads i haven't had any issues, i use FDM (Free download manager) and just leave it work away on its own, keep in mind that some servers don't allow resume downloads so that might not be because of Three.
Looked in to Nova myself a few times but not in my area, another to look at is ripplecom but good luck figuring out their coverage map.

I had the named broadband and every download stopped at around 60 % and refused to restart. Got rid of it and would not recommend it to my worst enemy.
