Keyrings.

Hi lads dont normally post here but I am not to bad at the photography, basically from years ago, now I am using a D70 plus 3 lenses and dedicated Nissin Flash which I think is a marvellous bit of kit.

Anyhow I am not a professional but a keen amatuer.

What I hope somebody can help me with is. I have also gone back to my childhood and doing Djing "Again" I was a radio dj for many years, so like most people to make some money, I am back diong Just one bar at the moment. I am not into Discos/Rave/Dance stuff. Just Parties weddings etc.

What I am trying to put accross is, I would like to take and produce photos "on the spot" at the gigs I do. The info I am looking for is what would be the most cost effective way to produce keyrings and say 6x7 prints in a cardboard frame at parties. I have done a lot of research but to no avail really. The only chap that has an Idea for me was Padraig in The Camera Exchange who suggested using one of the Pro Polaroid camera that were used up until recently at the licence office.

Anyway after explaining my life story, where could I get a printer that works off its own power or power pack that prints fairly good quality prints at an affordable Price.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I still have not sourced the different type of keyrings or the cardboard photo holders either.

Thanks for reading anyway. Appreciate any replies , even willing to pay for tutoring in this field.

    Yours sincerely

    Bill Cullen :)

Only joking , but I wish I was him. Then again I would not get up at 4 in the morning for anybody.

Thanks again. I await your posts hopefully! No I am not a smartass just jovial .

mcgowans pub in phibsboro does a roaring trade in photo keyrings. You should check them out. I dont know anything about how its done, but I've seen plenty around

How about something like this or, for something completely different, this for keyrings?

The second option would be more expensive for your customers, but would have some novelty factor, particularly if you could source them in bulk.

You could put the little stickers on the back of a business card, giving people contact details so they could order a larger size later if they wanted to.

Only difficulty I could see with Weddings is if you'd be stepping on the toes of the "official" photographer.

The Bell in blancherstown do this. they give you the key ring a few minutes after they take it. the keyring itself is huge

can you not just use a normal printer and plug it into a socket? I assume you have access to sockets for your dj-ing equipment?

i agree with thoie about doing it at weddings, it wouldn't go down well with the official photographer

My Girlfriend done had to make a company for her final year project in UNI, and she done this exact thing, they basiclly bought a load of chepo clear key rings which allowed you to insert the photo into it then lock the top half onto it like these http://cgi.ebay.ie/100-PASSPORT-PHOTO-BLANK-KEYRING-45-x-35mm-INSERT-95457-/110544074859?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19bcf0b86b
then brought the laptop and printer, you can set most printer to print in passport photo size and print 9 (or is it 12) per page, with them (into the Student Union) then went around asking people! almost everyone seemed to say yes! you take their photo, and money, and give them a ticket, from a raffle book, that corosponds to the number in the camera, make sure you wipe the card and set it so the photos start at 1 for handiness, they then came up to the table about an hour later and handed in the ticket and got their cororponding keyring.

Thats how they done it i suppose you could announce it over the mic to see if people would come up, or if you doing a party you could ask whoever is organising the party if they wanted it added into the price and that way you'd get paid for them , and its up to the people to come to you then :D also its be handy to get a passport photo punch instead of fiddeling about with scissors.

Anyways good luck with it, i cant do any more for you than that, lol.

    just be careful ....

you will have to have plenty of cash when you leave the place ....and some pub "patrons" will have noticed the amount of money you make.....so you could get robbed.

Also....you may have to do a deal with whatever pubs you enter...maybe make card frames with the pub name....or have pub name put onto keyring.

Thanks all especially Homer and PC photo,

The main thing I am trying to work out is the portability of the printer, and can it be used without having to plug it in. (100 euro) for licence to work on O connell Bridge! and the cost of coloured ink, at the moment it works out about 46c per key ring .

Selling for 5 Euro is not bad. But I want arange of non standard keyrings for different size photos or venues etc.

Maybe I will figure it out if I can find the supplier??? of the keyrings being currently supplied at the above mentioned venues.

I dont think they would be too forthcoming.

Thanks again. this is a winner.

Border fox , I phoned the UK and that one you reccomended was not battery powered.

I am rally looking for a portable printer that is battery powered, Also it must be coste effective, I havent hecked the Pogo printer out yet,

I want to be able to supply say, 2 size of keyrings , Large about 2inch by 3 inch

and the normal passport size, Plus if they request it a 6 x 4 in a presentation card if they require it.

So I need a portable , printer with preferably ink already on the supplied paper, I know it sounds messy but I intend using it qite a lot so I will buy 2 at least, I took up one of the posters suggestions and arrived at MC Gowans in Phisboro on Saturday, But the place was full, so I could not check out the guy that does the keyrings there. I heard he does a roraing trade.

I might try mc Gowans again on tuesday, if the wife lets me out to do "Business"?

Any further info, or if you know one of these guys with the Keyring set up , dont hesitate to let me know.

    Thanks,

    Good luck.

Are any of you people up for it. I am not joking, Its a direct Bribe which is used by Builders and Government officials as part of business Etiquette/entrepenuership...... Plus a bit of acting on your behalf, You never know you might blag yourself onto RTE like turbidy.

I hope the Mods take this on a light note.

To survive in business you have to be Devious, A little white lie is part of mangerial progression, Trust me I ran 11 companies before i got sick (Pancreatitis) No worries they say I will live, For the forseeable future according to them, (consultants) anywayssss I digress,

I will offer 30 euro paypal for anybody that replies with a proper buying structure hardware detailed analysis.
