    new to boards

can anybody tell me what these connections are?

im looking for a 12v supply that turns on with the acc, in the cabin to power an fm transmitter,

id also like to know out of curiousity what they are for.

these one's were under the gear stick,

beside the dash dimmer switch. just goes to a blanking plate?
    IMG_0108.jpg?t=1276361100

this one was under the handbrake cover on the right hand side.

this one is in front of the radiator

and finally this one is beside the chassis number plate to the right of the engine bay

seems strange to have so many blank connections.
as for the one's under the gear stick can anyone tell me which wire i could use for a 12v supply?

    thanks

Manufacturers put the same loom in different spec vehicles.

The ones beside the radiator may be for a fan for air conditioning or a temp sensor on transmission oil cooler. You'll see the same on many vehicles.

Again the plug beside the handbrake may be for something to do with an autobox.

There is an ignition feed there but wether it would be suitable to do what you want will all depend on the current you intend to draw off it.

You need to get one of the small cheap test light probes or else a multimeter otherwise chances are you will end up blowing a fuse or worse!

Patience shogunpower, can take a while to get a reply;)

As Slidey says, the loom is probably common to both a poverty spec manual and top of the range auto. Get the test probe out or do a search and download the workshop manual (plenty of sites, will need to pay a small fee though). I've used spare plugs on Defenders to supply accesoriies before, saves hacking in to the loom and they are usually already fused but you need to know what load they can take.

    I'll delete the duplicate thread.

    thanks for the replies,

sorry about that i'm new to boards and learning how this works,

im planning to use it to power a simple fm transmitter for an ipod, 5v 500ma, so shouldn't melt anything. im going to get a lend of a multimeter to test all these connections out.

That's OK, sometimes you'll get a quick reply, other times it may take hours, depends on who is lurking and whether it's raining outside!

You'll have no problem with that load, looks like you've plenty of choices for a power source anyway.

or just use a connector to join it either.

A ciggy lighter circuit will take a lot of current so is a good point to tap in to although you have plenty of other spares to pick. What ever you do, do it properly and don't use Scotchlok connectors, they are the spawn of the Devil and should be cast in to the pit!

probobly the neatest way is to use molex connectors, pick them up in any electrical store/wholesalers, and get some heat shrink to put over the connector and wire when all connnected. The heat shrink mite be a bit OTT but it leave it a nice tidy job and well insulated.
