You will always get more thanks if your post is on the first page of the a thread, my reasoning if a thread is more than a page long most people will only view the first and last page...

You can change the number of posts displayed per page up to a maximum of 40 which helps.

Why did you put a question mark after 'Have just noticed'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,312 ✭✭✭AskMyChocolate

Very true OP. But it's a double edged sword. If you post something you think is funny on the first page and it doesn't get thanked you know you're not funny. Kind of like going to Coppers or Fibbers hoping to score. Your chances are hugely increased but if you don't score you just feel like chopping it off.

    ^^^^^^^^
'Thanks' don't mean that much to you, do they?

What if you only post to amuse yourself, and don't give a sh1t if anyone else thinks it's funny (that's my fuckin excuse anyway)?

I never, and I repeat NEVER, open any thread with more than a page or two unless I have previously viewed it.

I see whats going on here, everyones letting on to be serious, but really trying to prove the OP right by inadvertantly being funny.
    Sneaky Russians!
Im not thanking any of you!

It's sad to think there's literally dozens of top quality posts on the page2's of AH threads that aren't getting the thanks they deserve. :(

Had your message been on page two then I would have thanked it...but it's on page one, so tough :P

The post of the day (ie., most thanked) is almost always on the first page too - generally, the 1st or most smart assed post after the OP.

Most of the time, all the stuff on the pages between the first and last are circular arguments.

There is no real need to read the same shoite again and again!

It all depends. I think it's prob as good a yardstick as any as to whether your posts were worth making or not (assuming you're not just a thanks whore making posts about FF, IRA, Catholic Church etc.).
Personally, there are a number of posters whose thanks I would appreciate as I like their sense of humour or attitude towards life and conversely there are a number of posters who,if they thanked my post, would make me worry about the validity/humour of my post. But that is just me.

After page one you can't get arrested in this town.

Generally, people who start threads to discuss thanks are thanks whores looking for some . . .;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

I am not page discriminate in my thanks giving but like another poster said, if a thread already has multiple pages there's generally an established arguement where someone has expressed a similar viewpoint to yourself and unless they're possible epic threads like "cheeckiest thing ya ever siad to a teacher" I'll tend to ignore them therefore some thanks worthy posts will go unthanked and sit cold and lonely in the gutter of failed posts.

More thanks whoring? WTF is with the crappy thanks whoring threads today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭Prof.Badass

First page thanking is shit, shows how many people actually read threads.

For example, back when the bus/luas crash happened this comic gem only recieved a moderate amount of thanks due to it being on page 15. However, had it been on page 1 it would have been a contender for most thanked post of all time.

I mean just compare it to post #2 in that thread (sorry admiralofthefleet :o), the thanks discrepancy annoys me .
