Audio sounds like helium junkie on Edison Argus Mini

    Howdy All,

We recently installed one of these boxes on an existing Sky dish. It has detected the Satellites fine and pictures are displaying perfectly, the only issue is the audio. All stations have a higher pitch on the audio, it sounds like they have been huffing helium!

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
I have tried playing with the sound settings on both the Argus & TV with no joy. They are connected through HDMI. Regular cable has no issues on the TV. We have yet to try a different TV on the Argus.
Also, the Firmware installed is dated March 2010.

    All help is appreciated.

Try a different / new HDMI lead?

Have to source a new cable first.
Have an update on the issue. It appears that when you change inputs on the TV the sound will return to normal but as soon as you start channel hopping using the Argus the sound will go funny.

Is it only HDMI causing the issue? Is scart ok?

    Doodee

I just been through a similar issue as yourself with the Argus Mini. Sound on randon channels is muffled to just a spluge, all you hear is a very low muffled noise (nothing discernable). Happens on some freesat channels and some dtt channels at random. I tried all the usual stuff, bought a new HQ HDMI cable (christ they are such a ripoff), I tried it via scart etc. Nothing helped

Having to send the box back. Now that I see your thread I am even more worried.

Is this box a piece of sh1t ?

With respect DNME this box has many many very satisfied users. It sounds like a fault as we discussed at depth already. The level of returns due to faults on this product are tiny.

Meant no offence slegs, just asking the question is all. Tell me, wht are the benefits of IP? what is it used for? (I may go MV route so would like to compare)

Actually, in fairness, I have been doing a lot of research and it seems the Argus Mini is very popular and well reviewed.

    For eg - http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hifi-forum.de%2Fviewthread-160-4409.html&sl=de&tl=en

So I think I'll stick with it and try another one before I give up

i have an argus mini 2 in 1 IP

    no problems with it.

what i dont like is that the front display is very hard to see if there is even small bit of sunlight in the room.
you cannot play back media files. ie ones you downloaded maybe on our PC.
when you record, it seems to use its own standard which you cannot play back on your PC without buying some special software.

I see there is a new firmware release out, dated 16 June 2010 .... pity they dont give a description of what has changed ?
    Anyone try this firmware ?

Use TS-Doctor to make it playable. Its Free. It will correct problem files (eg MPEG4 DTT TS/DVRs) allow you to save it as a TS file.

What do you use as your default media player ? VLC which is free is streets ahead of the rest.
