HD DVB-T freeview box

    Hi!

The World Cup has started and I'm in Malmö. I have a 22 inch widescreen computer monitor with HDMI connection capable of doing 1080 resolution. And I have been told that Danish TV (which I can easily receive, I can see Copenhagen from my balcony) will be broadcasting in HD on DVB-T.

So of course I thought I'd finally give HD a go for the World Cup! I found a box at a shop nearby but they are looking for 160 euros, which seemed a bit steep, to say the least!

Anybody know what a decent price for a freeview (meaning FTA) DVB-T HD box would be?

Of course, this may have been covered before, and I did try to find the relative thread. Apologies if I'm asking something that's been answered already.

    Cheers.

So after a bit of research it turns out digital TV is a complete and utter mess.

Denmark use MPEG4 for terrestrial HDTV. I can get one of those boxes... but it won't be able to receive Swedish terrestrial HDTV which will launch later this year, because that uses DVB-T2 (Judgement Day??). So if I buy an MPEG4 box I can watch the World Cup in HD, but will have to upgrade again in a few months.

So, I'll just buy a DVB-T2 box, I thought, cause it's backwards compatible with Danish MPEG4. But nobody sells DVB-T2 boxes yet in this part of the world.

So no HD World Cup for me.

Pfff.... They've been messing about with digital TV now for over 10 years, you'd think they'd have sorted everything out already. It's incredibly frustrating.

    Read this. http://www.digitag.org/DTTResources/DVB-T2_Handbook.pdf

You could try a UK dvb-t2 box. They may not be exactly compliant with Nordig standard though.

Or he could just go into a shop in Denmark and buy a compatible box for his service

The Akira DVB-T HD box can be bought in France for under 60 euros in Auchan supermarket.

Yep, I could. But it wouldn't be compatible with the DVB-T2 that Sweden will be launching later on in the year (I'm in Sweden, but just across the water from Denmark). So it would be a shame to buy it.

A Swedish DVB-T2 box is more likely to work for both than a UK one as the Nordig standard will be used.

You will need to wait for Boxer tested DVB-T2 STB's or IDTV's, but a trainticket across the bridge to Denmark (~8-10 €) and then 50 € (379 dkk) will buy you a FTA DVB-T/MPEG-4 box in the Bilka warehouse.

    Lars :)

Bilka! Thanks, I might give that a go. Of course I'll have to pay another 8-10 euros to come back over the bridge again. ;)

Saw one in MediaMarkt here for 899 SEK. Said MPEG4 HD, with HDMI port. But didn't say anything about 720 or 1080. And only had digital out for sound (I need the old fashioned red and white tulips for my 1980s stereo amplifier :D)
