    Issues:

    Shifting demand away from peak hours
    Demand side management reducing kWh that need to be generated
    Reduced need for new plant
    Automated metering reduces costs
    Price variability encourages consumers to become producers helping satisfy peak demand, and to store up energy when it is cheap
    Utilities should become energy service providers, rather then "generators"
    Italy and Scandinavia are leading the way in Europe

    Casting aside its initial Americanization, it does point out to the regional benefits of smart metering and makes reference to some European examples. It is all about informed decision making for all parties in the energy chain. We don’t want to be driving tiny Ladas consuming 7 l/100 km for the next 30 years because of some rigidity in the system.

    I’d give the report 7/10, given that you asked.
