Infrared Heaters

Anyone know anything about infrared heat?

I saw these infrared heaters in the outdoor area of a restaurant I was at last night. They had 3 elements and each was only 150W but still the heat from them was amazing (I was sitting about 8 feet from them)

I'm just wondering would they be suitable in a home bathroom? My current bathroom heater is 2000W so there is a huge potential saving. Also I have a 1kw wind turbine so potentially I could heat the bathroom for free??? Are they suitable for indoors though? I'll call the manufacturers but any impartial insights would be welcome.

They used to be much more common in bathrooms years ago - my granny had one, I think it was less than 400W.

Interesting, <400W sounds about right, the one I saw was 450W but was heating an outdoor area.
Why are these not common anymore?, sounds like they are very energy efficient.

Not sure, I think they just fell out of fashion once people got central heating in. This thing was fantastic for drying you off after a shower.

Hey jimmysull just read your post and was wondering what option you went with if any? I am thinking about something similar and any ideas would be great thanks.

Yes, you can use infrared heaters any where. Infrared heaters are designed for indoor and outdoor use, you can also fix it in your bathroom even with the help of few adjustment you can use it for sauna bath. Regarding power consumption as you have mention that you have 1KW wind turbine then you can run your infrared heater for free in case you are bot using other heavy electrical appliances. Basically it depends for how much time you are using all your heavy electrical appliances.
