JSA Question

Just to give a bit of background to my question.

I’ve just completed a Masters, (exams finished and thesis handed in), which was paid for by a company I’m going working for. I haven’t received my start date yet for the job, but judging on the employees taken on last year, it’s likely to be October at the earliest, possibly later.

I’ve looked everywhere the past few weeks for a job to keep me going until then but haven’t had any luck, so I went in today to start the jobseekers allowance process – I don’t qualify for JSB. My interview is next Wednesday, and I’m just wondering will the fact that I have a job in the future affect my claim? I asked in the Citizens Information Bureau and was told that as I’m available for work at the moment it shouldn’t be an issue. However, a couple of people I know who were in my position this time last year said they simply didn’t tell Social Welfare that they had a job as it never came up in the interview.

I’m just wondering will I be eligible for JSA even though I will be starting a job by the end of the year? I’ve absolutely no income at the moment, and won’t have any money coming in for the next 5/6 months unless I can get a job which isn’t looking likely, so I really need to get JSA.

You don't have to tell them you have a job starting in October. You just need to available and seeking work now
