Pharmacy

    Hello,

I'm going into 5th year this year and was just wanting to enquire about Pharmacy in UCC. I notice people saying don't do it in ucc, do it in Trinity, or RCSI. Are these fears well founded? I'd prefer to stay in Cork (Its enough of a journey aready!) than move to Dublin, but of course I am open to it.

As well as that, I notice theres no Pharmacy Society mentioned anywhere really...is there not one, and is this because pharmacy isnt afforded very good publicity within the college?

    Thanks!!

My brother has just finished 3rd year pharmacy, and unless he's been lying to me for some inexplicable reason, there is definitely a Pharmacy Society. It's an academic society so its appeal would be fairly limited (that is, outside of pharmacy students, nobody has much reason to take an interest in it or publicise it).

I have no evidence whatsoever to back this up, but I've heard that the Trinity pharmacy course is a bit dated. It was the first one of its kind as far as I know, but it hasn't moved with the times (whatever that may entail) like other courses have.

UCC's course is fully accredited, or whatever the term is, so by the end of your degree and pre-reg year (which now gives you a Masters) you will be a fully qualified pharmacist. I don't think there is much difference in standard between the courses in different colleges. I am open to correction though.

tl;dr UCC is no worse than Trinity or RCSI, as regards Pharmacy. Also, there is a Pharmacy Society.

There is definitely a pharmacy society, its listed on collegeroad.ie here: http://collegeroad.ie/index-of-societies.html though its not on the main ucc website so it might be new or something but there is an email on the collegeroad.ie page so you could get in contact with them for first hand experiences of the course
