    September 2010.

€55 for a yearly permit. No guarantee of a parking space in the permit-only carpark. Everywhere else is pay & display done by the hour. Clamping in operation. Carpool website to be set up with designated carpooling-only spots.

Keep an eye on the services section on the NUIM Website for more information.

From surveys carried out during the year there are 640 more cars parking than there are spaces on campus. I only hope the permits and paid-parking go towards actually remedying the problem and building a proper carpark, multistorey if they must with a nominal fee to recoup the capital investment.

Every study will pay the 55 euro for the permit because it's so cheap and a majority of those will have to fight it out for paid-parking anyways. It's some moneyspinner so it's only right it's used properly.

I'll soon be a cycle-to-train-station-then-get-train wanker if I still have a job when the rules are brought in (phased basis btw).

I am delighted this has come in. I drive from Westmeath to Maynooth every day during the College year and I became quickly fed up of seeing people who LIVE in Maynooth driving to College - lazy fúckers. This year I decided to move into an apartment around the town and get rid of the car. I just wonder how many people will choose to drive now?

    Hmmmm........

I suppose its a wait and see scenario.

btw OP, could you post a link for confirmation? Not that I don't trust you! :)

Apparently the information is going online next week on the campus services section of the website. There was an information meeting for staff yesterday in JHL2 at 11am that was sent around on a mailing list. I'd post a link if I had it. This is most definitely legit ;) *edit* Just to add that at no point was it mentioned the meeting was confidential or anything :D

In the email is says the full policy will be communicated to staff in the Autumn, and I expect students after that.

Tis true, but the information at that meeting was not final, so hold your horses on the specifics - I certainly have some points to raise.

A few points were raised at the meeting and seemed to be streamrolled over/around. And this is the University we're talking about, nothing much is going to change anyways :p I do hope the rebellious St Pats get their way though :D

Sad to hear that. I was at a smaller meeting where Student Views were sought and got a good reaction to some of my suggestions.

Get over it, if people want to drive they can drive, I happen to gladly be one of those lazy people that drives and lives in Maynooth, I happen to live in maynooth yet am around 25-30mins walking distance from the college... hmm would i rather drive in to college for a 9 oclock tutorial... yes, on a crap rainy day would I rather drive in than walk.. yes... go back to westmeath

Wish I was just a troll but instead I always forget passwords to boards accounts so make new ones and only message here when I see people moan about maynoothians or maynooth in some way.. like people moaning in December saying that maynooth is so dull in winter.. duh its winter!

If this is true I would find it fairly enraging as all parking permit spaces would inevitably go to lecturers.. and a few students that do arrive in at 9! The more logical thing to do is to set the whole college as a permit parking and those who dont have a permit can pay and display, instead of people having to fight out for permit parking which will probably be The SU car park.. 100% permit parking with the option to pay and display is the way to go

Students with permits can try park in the student-permit-only car parks. Staff with permits can try park in the staff-permit-only car parks. Staff can't park in student permit carparks and vice versa. The only person stealing your spot will be another student.

If they were gonna make it a permit-based free for all the permits would be a lot more expensive

well my last account was MTAR so its not much of a hiding account.. just when boards got hacked I lost the password 0_o

It will end up like UL so.... went down there a few weeks ago and 70% of carparking there is staff permit only, I could only find one carpark that wasnt a staff permit only.

The college probably wont be using the money coming from this to invest in a multi-story carpark... from what I here all parking that is for the "public sector" i.e. schools, colleges etc will have to pay for parking from september this year or next. The government will also be bringing in fee's for the private sector too which will mean emplyoees will also have to pay for parking to bring in more revenue to the government (dont know how they can do this in the private sector but apparently it is coming in)

Why the hell would you live in Maynooth and drive to college? Where do you live that's 30 mins walk away? Did you catch a case of the exagerations? Get a bike ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭mp3guy

Well, walking from Beaufield or up the back of Maynooth Park to the Engineering building isn't exactly a quick 5 minute stroll.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

I live in Maynooth Park, it's hardly a half hour walk. Unless you're out for a leisurely stroll. Pointless waste of money driving into college if you live in Maynooth is all I'm saying. And lazy obviously. Which is why I'm sure most people do it really. Now come the excuses....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭mp3guy

Well it's about 20 minutes from the bottom of Maynooth park to some buildings on North Campus. If people have got a car, on a rainy day at 8.30, why wouldn't you drive? Instead of at least getting your trousers and shoes soaked.

It's one of the main reasons I don't cycle, it just rains too much. And also the fact the road from Celbridge to Maynooth is seriously lacking in cyclist friendliness.

I lived in Moyglare Abbey for a few years and lectures were in Logic House, so it was 30+ to minutes from the time I left the house to the time I got there. But taking a car would have just made me a selfish sap who just makes it impossible for people coming from actual distances to find parking space. By half nine everyone just parks on the pitch.

Areas near Castle dawson especially the back of that estate are easily 30minutes from the college. Congrats banquo you walked from moyglare abbey, obviously you didnt take the shortcut accross the rugby pitches which halfs your time... also yes your right by you walking you are not a selfish sap.. but you still seem like a prick in this tread so they probably cancel eachother out.

There are car spaces available at all times in the college if people look but most people in the college dont drive far past the entrance and just park on the road in the college/on the kilcock road, i easily get a parking space in the engineering carpark from 11 to 1 when I need to during the week.

By law you are well within your rights to request a breakdown of your fees. A euro by euro account of where your fees are supposed to go. It would be interesting to see if they already have a parking fee on that.

If it wasn't for me, that shortcut wouldn't exist.
