Finnair crazy pricing

Does anybody know why a flight with Finnair from Dub-Hel is 3,600 euro where you can get the same flight from Lon-Hel for 330 euro?

Do Finnair have a deal in place with London that isn't there with Dublin?

I thought there were no direct flights DUB HEL. I thought Malev was the operator to Budapest and then Finnair to HEL. You are paying for 4 legs.

Hmmm.... Aer Lingus offfer a service, not every day, but flights are full!

Cheers, I didn't go past the page on the Finnair website once I saw the (economy!!) price! Yeah it's Dub-Bud-Hel. Crazy!

Why do they actually offer this SAS do Dub/Stockholm or Copenhagen/ Helsinki between 350-500 return.

I used to get Ryanair Dub-Tampere when it was available and it was always full. I can't understand why they pulled this route apart from fighting with the DAA.
Did a Ryanair Stansted-Tampere journey a few months ago and the plane was only half full and that was with 30 seats taken up by a school tour!

Will be taken up the Aer Lingus option. €330 return.

With these other options I don't see why Finnair even offer the route?!

Aer Lingus are the only one operating the direct HEL route anymore. Sadly infrequent and only seasonal I didn't understand though why fly to Tampere if you are heading to Helsinki? It's a bit far? Or were you going to Tampere? Either way the best all round option as you say is SAS. They have more aircraft that gives you choice and back up if you have tech issues. And they fly direct to Tampere from Stockholm Arlanda.

As regards Ryanair, there are too many carriers full service and better no frills in northern europe for Ryanair to compete, they just don't make money on many of these routes anymore, esp. out of Dublin. Nothing to do with the DAA, despite what their PR machine says.

The best way to check for what airlines fly where is to go on to the likes of ebookers.ie / lastminute.ie or gohop.ie They will provide all the options and frequently lowests fares.

    Hope this helps

For the budget alternative have a look at Norwegian.no to Copenhagen (or Oslo) and then blue1.com on to Helsinki. Planned far enough in advance it could be done very economically.

Cheer Wade. It doesn't matter which airport I get to as I have to travel a bit once I arrive.

I don't know if I'd agree on that. Ryanair moved the Dublin-Tampere route to Edinburgh. They've also expanded their flights from Tampere to Europe and they have recently opened up a second terminal in Finland in Lappeenranta to Berlin I think. They were more competitive than SAS and as I said, the flights were always full when I used the Dub-Tampere route.

Cheers Dylfin. I'll have to look into that and see how it works out. At the moment it's either SAS (who we had real disappointment with over the winter period and don't really want to use anymore unless absolutely necessary) or Ryanair Stansted-Tampere which is a pain as I have to fly to Stansted the night before.

Still annoyed that the Ryanair route was cancelled as it was a direct flight and made it easier to see the family.

That's sort of the point. Ryanair open new routes all the time. Some of which are due to new aircraft coming on stream but others because they've closed existing routes. And more power to them, they are very successful with this model, but inconvenient for people like you who travel those routes. Being full does not always mean they are profitable, and routes live and die on that basis these days.

One word of caution though with off-lining or using unconnected tickets with different airlines. If you misconnect you are generally on your own, and may have to buy a new ticket. If you factor that in, along with your time, stress involved and the money you'll likely spend hanging around the airport you might find a cheaper ticket is actually more expensive in the long run.
