Are there any places in Dublin where you can get the 'permanent blow-dry' hair relaxant treatment that isn't stupidly expensive? I've heard there's a treatment called Magic Straight you can get done in some Chinese hairdressers - can anyone confirm?

    Hi konstruktsiya

I think you are mixing up two different treatments
the permanent blowdry AKA 12 week blowdry, brazilian blowdry etc is a non chemical treatment - it wont make your hair poker straight permanently but only for 3 months while the treatment washes out of your hair and then you are back to original type of hair that it was before the treatment.

Chemical straightening relaxes the hair permanently using chemicals and so can't be used on damaged/highlighted hair normally as the hair will become overprocessed - it is good tho if you want poker straight hair and you only need to get the roots redone as the roots will grow curly while the rest of hair is straight.

The 12 week blowdry is generally more expensive because the product is so expensive to buy into the salon and also because it can take up to 3.5 hours to do the procedure - circa 150 - 350.

Chemical straightening is much easier to carry out so should be much cheaper - circa 100-200 max.

The first one is kind on hair, the second one is not so. So its important to know what end result you want ie get rid of curls for good or just get rid of frizz and make it more manageable.

I wouldnt recommend trying the product they use in the chinese salon as it is quite a specialised treatment and if gone wrong you will spend alot more money trying to fix the damage than what you will save.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks, thats really helpful info. I dont have mad curly hair, just annoying kinks and I have a bob & fringe that I don't want to have to blowdry every day to get straight. My hair's been dyed too so the first treatment rather than the second is probably the one I need. It's just so expensive - I've never heard of it being less than 300euro. Anyone know of cheaper options? (that won't make my hair fall out! :))

I had the permanent hair straightening done in June; it was meant to last 6 months, it looked great for 1 month and i thought i found the solution for my wavy hair...The worst part is to come...i'm struggling now with hair loss; it's driving crazy as falls in large amounts...I would higly recommend to all of you to reconsider permanent hair straightening...

I've never seen it priced at 300e. It's generally a lot less. For example, Hermans do it for 175 http://www.haircare.ie/special_offers.htm.

I got my hair chemically straightened a few years back. My hair is wavy but borderline curly depending on it's mood. I got it done in the Chinese hairdressers on Westmooreland St. It was less than €100 from what I remember and they cut my hair beforehand to above the shoulder but with a lot of layers.

It lasted for just over a year but it made my hair look terribly flat after 6 months. I'm still trying to grow out the damage from it about two and a half years later.

    Hi,
I got my hair chemically straightened in Penang, Malaysia and it was brilliant...lasted over a year.....and while the treatment was being carried out not a hair straighener was put near my hair...Had what I thought was the same treatment here but it only lasted a couple of months and between the treatments they kept straightening my hair with the straighteners too...is this normal????....or does any idea what kind of a treatment I had done???
    thanks

I got my hair chemically straightened a few years ago, in Brazil. It lasted for ages and ages until my hair grew out. It didn't seem to damage my hair at all. If anything, my hair seemed so much shinier and more hydrated, with no visible breakage at all (probably because I hardly ever had to brush it!). And yes, there were straighteners involved. The product they used was called Wellastrate (a bit of googling took me to this)

I'd definitely recommend that product, if you can find somewhere in Ireland that uses it. :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also had my hair bleached, dyed and highlights put in. Still no signs of damage or anything, and got sooo many compliments for how healthy my hair was!

    Thanks for that anothernight.....
ye my hair was not damaged at all...and like you looked much healthier and shinier than ever before....they didn't use a straightener but I've no idea what products they used....will def look up the product you mentioned cos I was very unhappy with the results of my hair straightening here...and it cost so much more too!!

Did anybody find somewhere in Ireland that uses Wellastrate?
I have insanely thick curly frizzy hair, nightmare stuff, and I've yet to find a solution that makes it significantly more manageable, was thinking this might help.

Bump for this old thread. (Can a mod perhaps move this to the Beauty forum?)

I'm looking for somewhere in Dublin that performs the Wellastrate Chemical Hair Straightening treatment.

A Google search doesn't bring much luck, Copacabana hairdressers on Cork Street looks good but their website doesn't have any indication that they perform this treatment.

Any places that you guys know of?
