Unfortunetly CH4 HD is not available to Irish subscriptons at the moment. The only other HD channel for free is Luxe HD its on the guide ..

Simply cannot be tuned in manually on a Sky box. You can only select a symbol rate of 22000 or 27500 on a Sky box, whereas Ch4HD is on a symbol rate of 29500.

I presume since Channel 4 do broadcast to Ireland on Sky Digital that eventually they will do a deal to get Channel 4 in HD for Ireland?

Well apparently they are in talks to make that happen but that could take a long time, look how long we had to wait to get BBCHD on the Irish EPG:rolleyes:

I think the only reason we got BBC HD was because UPC has it on their HD package. E4 HD does show some of the C4HD content, such as Skins, Glee, Hollyoaks etc.

I wouldn't have though that was the reason. The reason we have it is because its being broadcast through Astras satellites, simple as that. If anything its the other way round.

BBC1 HD will be up in Autumn. Although they have destroyed BBCHD by lowering the resolution to little over SD. There sure is talk of C4HD going freesat. It should be soon enough. All we need now is RTE to follow because the KIL DUB match on RTE2 looks bloody shocking to say the least.

I believe the current situation is contractual between C4 and Sky. Sky help Channel 4 with distribution costs. Very good of them. Obviously adding yet another channel to this list is occurring even more costs. With this in mind I believe that C4 as an agreement with Sky about FTA distribution. e.g. Ok, we will pay some of the costs for you because your channels help our sales, but this means all the other Freeview services cant have C4HD either. With us being in Ireland it gets a little trickier. Irish watch British Channels. Sky needs to pay for the rights to use them. E.g. We cant record ITV and most 'Other Channels for this reason' this is in all the contracts they have. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_4#Channel_4_HD

Yes Im sure there is some contractual agreement between C4 and Sky as Im sure we would of seen C4HD on Freesat by now. It's just a matter of when the agreement ends. Saying that though, us Irish dont get the pleasure of watching all of the Shows/Movies C4 shows probably due to the rights C4 obtains. Im not sure Sky will want to launch C4HD here if we are plagued with "Not available in your area" messages. We have to pay extra for HD channels so Im sure customers will be angered by this as opposed to a "free" channel like C4.
