well lads just thought id see what everyone thinks of the new method of picking the premier league players for 2011..

    as follows..

Top 4 in the Order of Merit after the 2011 World Championships

And 2 Wildcards picked by the PDC

And 2 Wildcards picked by Sky Sports

Im not sure about this because sky could pick Mardle and hes past it at this stage, Anybody got any views on this???

stupid, what should be happening is top 8 from order of merit, god forbid the 8 best players get a chance.

Mardle won't get in on his current form anyway. Sky could have picked him this year but him getting hammered every week wouldn't have done the league any favours. Any other years he got the Wildcard he was in or around the Top 10.

I'm not sure what the point of having both the PDC and Sky having two picks each will be. What difference will the PDC choices have? I know the PDC used to have a pick but they were no-brainers like Barney or Part when they held the World Title.

Hate it, although i think there should be a wildcard or two at the max, 4 is far too many. It's just a means for them to get the players they want - ie. the most controversial - in to the PL.

A player like Alan Tabern, Andy Hamilton, Colin Osbourne or Mark Walsh could have very good results next year, finish 5th in the Order of Merit and not get in while someone like Mardle or Thornton (who i think is a good player, but hasn't done it in the PDC yet, despite the commentators raving about him) could.

said this ages ago but i'll say it again they should make a second division

8 in the first division like always but 10 in the second and the top 2 go through to the first division and the bottom two go out to be replaced by two nes players next year. it would mean we get a second night of darts a week and we would get to see players that we love to see play more often like osbourne, walsh, stompe, van der voort, anderson, nicholson etc.

Would doubt it would get the crowds both on tv and in the arenas from the casual dart fans, without Taylor and co. to make it condusive.

4 wildcards is far too many, the previous system of the top 6 in the PDC order of merit and 2 wildcards was very fair. This decision seems to me something that's been influenced heavily by Sky Sports and i suppose with them been the main broadcaster they have a serious say in the line up bit IMO that's wrong.

That's a ridiculous decision by both Sky and the PDC. The Premier League is boring enough as it is with the same players playing every night but to not have the best 8 players in it is going to harm it even more.

I understand there can be exceptions to the rule that the top 8 are the best players so there should be one wildcard place to allow for someone like Whitlock to be picked.

Four places is crazy. They should halve teh length of the Premier League so that players play each other once and add a new major to the circuit instead.

Why not have the top 5, 1 pdc pick ,1 sky pick, and then have a wildcard playoff between the rest of the top 16 for the final place. That would be well worth seeing. you would have 9 players playing for the final spot 3 groups of 3 playing each other in round robin, Top of each group through to semi final with best runner up from the 3 groups.

But, without the income generated by the premier league we wud not have a pro tour for the players. Surely this is the point of this glorified exhibition, it has nothing to do with being a darts competition, even Rod harrington has said it on sky, it is an exhibition circuit.

The ro tour events will have £35k per event next yr, with max entry of 128@£100, thats a max of £12,800... An overlay of £22k plus per event, with 2 events each w-end, no company cud sustain these loses (with out the 15 weeks of the premier league and the football style fans paying £15 per ticket..

Sky will pick Mardle because its a glorified exhibition and he'll sell seats ( i dunno why???) so while its not 100% that he's get in he has a better chance than osborne or walsh because sky will see there picks as the fans favourites pick so popular throwers will get these 2 wildcards.

I reckon the PDC will give there picks to Anderson and Nicholson (i think they'll both have decent years) because although they'll never admit it, it was a big mistake giving Lewis the wildcard last year because he gave up half way through the league and sky just kept hyping him to the max without him justifying his selection.

But knowing The PDC and Sky they'll feck it all up and end up ruining the tournament which i hope doesn't happen.

Whitlock would make it on merit anyways only a year later while Jenkins will be gone come the next one. What the pdc are doing is giving more choice to bring in the recognised faces while pissing on better but unspectaculor players like Mark Walsh who don't have a big image.

When you see a premier league of Taylor, Wade, King, Whitlock (who imo will be the top 4 for a long time to come) and than the usual wildcard average but showbiz throwers like Barney (yes i would lump him in there now, another who either needs to sort his darts out or he'll be outta the big league faster than you can say John Part), Mardle, Lewis (cause even at 45 he'll still have awesome potential) and whoever the flavour of the month is at the time be it the next dutch prodigy (Klaasen, van Gerwan) or the loveable scot who just can't do it under pressure. In fact I'd say Andersons one good performance on t.v. recently could possibly be the PDC and skys whole reason for this.

What it is imho is a kick square in the balls for the Taberns, Osbournes and Hamiltons of the world. They'll never quite be top 4 and never quite have the showbiz personality to get a wildcard so wheres there chance going to come from.
