My frend is a massive swans fan-these two he reccomends "children of god" and "White Light From the Mouth of Infinity"-I have only heard the second one and it is very good.

There is very roughly 2 eras of Swans:

The early, slow, loud, grinding industrially metal type sound. Sounds like someone being tortured in an industrial plant on the shores of hell basicly. Cop is a good album for this.

The acoustic, folksy period. White Light From The Mouth of Infinity is superb.

Also The Great Annihilator is very good - takes the acoustic feel and gives it a menancing makeover.
