Hey guys can you help me with this!? I work in spar part-time as an assistant manager in dublin and I feel that I am not getting paid enough for what I do! Tried the internet and couldnt find what others might be on anywhere so I'm trying this. I was wondering what other people in my position are on? Or if anyone has an idea how much I should be gettin paid an hour?

    Cheers!

    Are you the wage regulator?

Pop in to other Spars and ask their managers/part-time managers on the QT if they wouldn't mind telling you.

There's probably some ratio of staff wage:supervisor/manager wage that's reasonably consistent across the board in shops and supermarkets. What is your wage as a percentage of normal staff pay?

    Under the tree euro.

It seems the wages in there have "hit the floor" too

I get roughly 7% more than the normal staff do. But we are currently under staffed and nearly every day I am rushed off my feet doing extra work, so I am doing more work for the same money as before this "recession" lead to a "need" in a reduction of staff!

Retail is crappily paid anyway OP - a good few of my friends are in supervisory/assistant manager positions with 10+ years' experience and the highest salary of the lot of them is about €25,000. It's bullsh1t - can be a tough job.

Aldi/Lidl pay their managers much better, but the trade-off is working a stressful job 'round the clock.

OP, you should be on the top level tier of the JLC pay scale plus 7.5% for a post of responsibility. But in the current climate, I wouldn't push it.

And as you're an "assistant manager" so your contract should state that you get a basic salary, as opposed to an hourly wage.

edit: BTW, that document is supposed to be on display in the staff room / canteen in the shop.

7% sounds fairly low to be honest. Would you say it's more of a supervisory role than a manager's one? If it is then it's all right but if you have genuine managerial responsibility and you're doing the job more than six months (i.e. beyond some probation period) I would expect more.

Could be the regular staff are overpaid too of course.

I thanked both his posts :pac:

Anyway OP do Spar have a union? As much as I hate them, you could ask one of them what the standard assistant manager wage is.

I think anyone who is working knows what that's about, I've had to become a auditor on top of IT, I hate auditing. No pay rises either.

There is a sign up in the staff room, but it only discusses under 18's!

There are a lot of flaws in the shop I work in, after ten o clock we dont get paid and we have to close up the shop, so you end up working on average an extra 15 minutes a night you work. Then on top of the the staff get paid time and a third for sunday pay, but the managers dont get paid their wage, times a third they get the basic rate times a third, so basically on a sunday the managers get paid the same rate as the other staff that are on with him/her!

Want to swap jobs? Try late nights, early mornings, working through lunch and occassional weekends for a fixed salary.
