Here's another French barge to put into the forgotten car file. I give you the new Renault Latitude.

    Latitude_1-t.jpg

Can you just imagine the meeting that dreamt this up......

Renault Bod 1" lets see , we need a car that can compete with a E- Class and 5 Series yet retains a sence of Frencness and individuality "

Renault Bod 2 " I know , we'll rebadge a Korean Samsung ( itself a cast off Jappo Nissan Luxo barge of sorts ) and sell it as a premium Renault product ....yup thats it, we nailed it "

Cue hollars of laughter in various German cities :) Anyway here's the article ....

It will probably sell in France though, and since it's probably based on a Jap car originally the RHD blueprints will be hanging around in Nissan's cellar so it's not a big job to swap the steering wheel.

The front looks more like a Passat, particularily in this shot

It could look like an Aston DB7, I still wouldn't buy a renault

I wouldn't touch a French car with a barge pole.

Just looks like a Laguna saloon from the side profile:

I'm amazed Nissan didn't sell this as a replacement for the Primera, this Irish would love it.

Depending on the pricing and engine lineup, it could give them a reasonable return on what is no doubt a very modest investment. I doubt it will make any impact here, little impact in the UK but will sell reasonably well on the continent. If it's pitched as a competitor to the Skoda Superb rather than the BMW 5 series, then it makes sense.

I think this shows the French are learning. They need a big saloon for the French market, an know that nobody outside France will buy it. So they rebadge an old Nissan instead of doing a typical French-franc-burning exercise like the Vel Satis.

I actually think it looks pretty nice....:o

I don't think it looks that bad.

Makes sense cutting down on development costs for a car that will sell in tiny numbers too

I'd imagine the car is aimed more at emerging markets like China than the traditional European markets.

I mean no one in Europe will buy one surely.....

France (Obviously) but Spain and Italy buy massive amounts of French cars too.
Thats pure Passat from the front (may be no bad thing?) and Laguna from the side view. Seeing as Renault are now priced to sell here, it might do ok. Certainly better than that dogs dinner, the Vel Satis.......

    Great reflection of your intelligence.

I predict you drive something like a ford or a toyota, a very common one...you seem like the type/

It's not being sold in Europe, according to the Top Gear site.

Some people just won't drive certain brands. Would you buy a Ssang Yong?

    Yes?
I base buying a car on what I think of it.
Not what the general ignorant sheep of this country do.

+1 for what its worth. Its just that the French do people carriers, small hatches and turbo diesels. Big Luxo saloons and the French do not go hand in hand :) No matter how good it is it will still never sell

more a reflection of my experiences.
I had two renault vans in my business and 1 renault car, all three gave endless expensive problems complicated with a crap dealer service.

Wow! are you Keith Barry or something? I now have two Ford Transits for work!!!!
but an Audi family car, 1 out of 2 aint bad though.

personally i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole, it probably costs the same as a 5 series or a passat and have a far better brand image as well as probably not having an awful interior ,

I wont say anything about renaults and their reliability because there are exceptions (a mates 95 clio has been running almost flawlessly for years) , but I have yet to find a renault with a nice interior that doesnt fall apart or feel like it was designed by a child
