    Dont use it.
Meteor data roaming is seriously expensive, something like €10/MB. Disable data while abroad and only use wifi if available.
But calls and texts should work automatically.

If you are willing to spend €60 just on data while roaming and no more you can ask them to put a cap on your data roaming for you. Stops bill shock.

Just curious about this myself, except im not leaving the country.
ive a data plan, but occasionally i lose network signal at work, and it throws me onto O2's network, and my Hero gets the little "R" showing that im roaming. do i get charged for using the roaming networks internet or does it come off my plan?

sorry for the thread hi jack.

Meteor have a system where if you a new customer with them, and are going to be roaming then you must lodge €60.00 into your Meteor account to cover roaming charges. I understand that a longer-term customer does not need to do the lodgement. You may need to call Customer Service if this is your first time going roaming with your Meteor account.

If at all possible I would only use data when in a wifi zone. If you have a voipstunt.com (or one of its offshoots) account you could use that with Fring on your Hero to make free calls when in a wifi zone.

Frigging hell. Irish customer service - yuck.

I changed to Meteor when I bought my Desire, and set up the roaming when in the Meteor shop first day. Are you any way handy to a Meteor shop which could get you sorted, assuming you speak to someone on the ball?

Yeah theres a store in Newbridge which is nearby.
I might ramble in there if i get time.

Is there any extra cost at all?
Im not a new customer as im with them 5 months or so.

I understand that once you have been with them on bill-pay for 2 months they do not require a "deposit". They just run the account as per normal. There is no charge for setting up roaming.

    Enjoy your holiday!

Just back from Spain, as stated you have to ring them to setup. I had to reboot my phone when i got there to connect to network. You will see an R beside the connection to indicate roaming, if you have disabled "connect to data services while roaming" in settings the phone will not connect to any data services just the normal phone/txt services.

It worked out well as nearly all cafes/bars/restaurants/hotels had free wifi.

Just assuming you are on meteor (may be an incorrect assumption)

Happens me too, I thought Meteor had an agreement with Vodafone to use their network when no Meteor coverage, so am surprised you see O2's network. I from time to time roam onto Vodafone in Rep of Ireland and can confirm it has come off my plan. Maybe someone else can clarify the O2 network roaming status?

I was with meteor in the past and again now and it's always been O2 when it happens with me.

Probably use both so whichever is available? Roaming onto the Vodafone network will not cost any extra..
