I'm trying to find out the meaning of "Three in One" vaccination.

I know that MMR is Measles/Mumps/Rubella (HSE MMR Leaflet)
and 4-in-1 is Diphtheria/Polio/Tetanus/Whooping Cough. (HSE 4-in-1 Leaflet)

    But what is 3-in-1?
Is it another name for MMR, or was it a predecessor of 4-in-1?

    3 in 1 = MMR, AFAIK.

Where is the "Three in One" phrase used, ie: What's the context? It sounds like MMR but could be DTP (diptheria, tetanus, pertussis) or maybe a tri-valent vaccine for, say, flu (provides immunity for 3 strains of the same disease).

Its mentioned in one of the kids vaccination notes:

I think I understand it now; 3-in-1 can have many meanings depending on the time and the country. For example, MMR is a 3-in-1 vaccine, but not the 3-in-1 mentioned on my form.

In our case, it seems that as babies they got MMR and 3-in-1 DTaP.
By the time they got boosters around age 5, they got MMR again, but a Polio vaccine had been added to the 3-in-1 (DTaP) to make it a 4-in-1 (DTaP/IPV).

    D: Diphteria
    T: Tetanus
    aP: Pertussis or Whooping Cough
    IPV: Polio

Ah - we need the mind to Tallaght01 to hit this thread.

3-in-1 is not a reference to the MMR.

It is a reference to the DTP which is given at around 3 months for the first shot. This has had other things added in over time and is now the 6-in-1, still given at 3 months or thereabouts (there are slight timing differences between countries).

The MMR is given as a first shot at 2.

Correction - given at 2 months - enclosed is the official HSE link:

    http://www.immunisation.ie/en/ChildhoodImmunisation/PrimaryChildhoodImmunisationSchedule/

    6-in-1 now contains:

    Diphtheria
    Tetanus
    Whooping cough (Pertussis)
    Hib (Haemophilus influenzae B)
    Polio (Inactivated poliomyelitis)
    Hepatitis B

    Hope this helps.
