they butcher cattle/sheep in slaney meats by halal ways .the animal is not stunned its jugular is cut by a large blade and left to bleed out,if you tried to get into the area you would have your cut to.

if we did the same to animals we would be locked up and rightly so .

why the focus on the ward union ? .there the only stag hunt in the country and looked like a soft target .

pick up the phone ,write that letter send the e mail ,you have a voice use it.

    well done Maurice

They die quickly. It's a single cut to the throat incising both carotids and jugulars.
You mean to tell mean that everytime somebody goes out shooting they get an instant kill. Are you serious? By your logic you should be locked up:cool:

quick and instant are two different things.
no one can guarantee an instant kill every time they hunt, but they damn well try their best to.
i'm sure not every throat is cut perfectly and not every animal recieves a quick death with the halal method of slaughter. human error exists in every walk of life, be it hunting, or industrialised slaughter of cattle for human consumption

Every throat is cut properly, their head are held back. When wildfowling what percentage are not killed outright and have a slow death? Alot more have a lingering death than animals killed by halal.
Well if I had the choice on which way I'd prefer to die, some lad shooting at me or halal slaughter? I'd choose halal.

There is a lot more to his article than that, his comments on HSE for one and the healthy aspect of Field Sports when we are all becoming obese:rolleyes:
I'll not get drawn into a discussion on other religions customs and practice when it comes to how animals are slaughtered. I think the point his they are slaughtered for consumption, I maybe wrong.

This is a very high profile individual making these statements

The throat is only half cut (jugulars and carotid cut). The reason the bullock got away was properbly it's veterbral artery (which is not cut) was large enough in this animal to provide sufficient blood to brain for a time. This is the exception to the rule.
By the way the name is "feargal as luimneach" not sunshine:P Are you able to read properly?

An excellent article indeed, and I'm delighted to see such sentiments echoed by a gentleman of Mr. Nelligan's stature.
How did we get from a very reasoned piece in the papers by Maurice Nelligan to discussing halal? Eh?

    Not pointing any fingers
    >(Thanks JW) and Feargal)

    :D:D:rolleyes:

You have both seemed to concentrated on a mere 11 of the words, to the detrimenint of the other 743 in the article! Talk about tunnel vision, lads!

It's a great article and thanks to cavan shooter for bringing it to our attention. But WTF has the bigger picture that Mr. Nelligan is addressing got to do with halal, kosher, whatever? As ever, off we all go!!!!!:D:D:D:p

Just pointing out that: Out of a very well constructed article of over 700 words by an eminent surgeon, some people are getting hung up on 11 words and missing the entire point of the article and the bigger issues raised therein.

    What's harsh about that?
