I am completely new to games. Was thinking of getting a ps3. Are the truly interactive, i.e different each time. I would like games to do with driving/chases or shooting like these games in the emporiums where you shoot or 'drive'. Not into sport/football

Which is best ps3 or x box? I saw an x box 'handgun' which i think makes it easier to 'shoot'

    TIA

That's the type of question that will have fanboys jumping the trenches. I have an X-box and Playstation and like both. Playstation network is free and offers an increasingly wide variety of cool applications. It also has an excellent browser.

X-box has a subscription fee, and offers good online gaming support. It also has some good exclusive games. I find X-box frustrating as most of the online leader boards etc are hacked.

Personally I prefer playstations layout and features. Its compatibility with the psp and its blu ray player are also really cool.

In the Playstation forum, you ask this?

Look at the exclusive games that are released for each console and buy the console with more of the games you like.

can't you get games to play offline or is there an online component to all games?

The vast majority of games now will require various online updates. You can play all games offline, but internet access is a must if you own a playstation or x-box. Otherwise, its a bit like having a Ferrari without petrol.

i have both consoles and i prefer the 360 honestly although the ps3 has bluray which is an advantage although bluray players are ten a penny now!

xboxlive yes indeed you have to pay for but to be honest psn is slow i find.

i love god of war games and uncharted andmetal gear solid 4

and xbox have gears of war, fable 2, alan wake etc etc

to be honest your asking this in the wrong forum and normally these threads end in tears lol

i imagine this thread wont be left open as they usually cause trouble.

all i can say is if your not interested in online gaming go for the 360 as it can be picked up a lot cheaper than the ps3 but its personal choice .

Starting from scratch really gives you a terrific choice. No games or peripherals to carry over, just a straight forward choice between consoles.
Look at the game selection for each, particularly exclusives that may appeal to you. Then if you have friends using one or the other, that you might play against on-line. You will go online if you get the likes of Killzone 2 or Modern Warfare 1 or 2.

    I got a PS3 only because I had a PS1 & 2 and still had games which the original PS3 would play.

if i could choose all over again i would definitely get the ps3. In the last year it seems that the ps3 is slowing getting better and better than the xbox. The xbox is full of pre teens screaming or scaming to get a nuke or what not and my god does it get boring. And i would rather spend 60 euro on a new game than having to pay for xbox live. I only owned a xbox and i probably shortly packing it all up and heading to town and get a ps3

You won't go wrong with A PS3 or an XBOX360. Both will serve your purpose admirably.....only Fanboys argue over it.

I have a PS3 becuase I wanted the Bluray and some friends had a PS3 also....that was my only reasoning. I want an XBOX as well, but the finances say no at the moment (Mass effect 2....you tease!!!)

Ok thanks. Do you have to connect the console to the net or can you download to a PC and transfer. As a curiosity why do offline games need updates?

Thy don't need updates, but sometimes a game is put out with a bug or sometimes a developer has some ideas of ways to improve the gameplay and can put a patch/update out to fix the problem retroactively. Its not necessary for the game, but it can and usually does improve the gaming experience.
