Was in Henry St branch of HMV,reduced from €23, this allows upscaling of dvd's if you only have the component connections. If you have the newer HDMI connection you dont need it, even though the bonus optical cable is worth the €7 alone.Madcatz is the brand.

Yup, I got one of these yesterday too - I need the optical cable, but it's handy to have the VGA for Lan Parties :)

Is there any major difference between Component and VGA? I have a component cable hooked up and the picture seems fine (on a Walker TV).

Yes there is. I was amazed at the difference when I went from component to VGA. There's a lesser difference, but still notable, when going from VGA to HDMI too.

Also, the VGA will handle different (higher) resolutions - as I understand it, Component only goes to 720p. I certainly noticed a jump from component to HDMI when I made the switch.

Unfortunately it won't, as one end has a proprietary Xbox 360 connector.

oops! :o My Bad - sorry :) My own telly only does 720p and someone said to me before that using the Component would be grand as it only did 720p. I'm guessing now he meant that it'd be a negligible difference in quality between HDMI and Component since I wasn't at Full HD.

Something like this might be your best bet.

Could you give some detail about the optical cable please? Is it this one here ? It says "Fully compatible with all optical audio ports" so it should work with ps3 also I guess...

I bought one and the resolution was improved - but the colours using the VGA cable were very bad - all washed out - greens were pale green etc.
With the Component the colours really Pop-Out.

Laptop connected to VGA on same TV and tv settings (Sony Bravia) was perfect. Tried several of the TV modes (dynamic, natural etc) but couldnt get as good as composite.

So dont know if was faulty XBox or cable - but I went back to Component cable.

    “Roll it back”

There is a setting in the xbox display settings, that you can adjust (it's for black levels iirc)

Your right though on VGA overall colors not as vivid, but for my taste I find them over saturated on my TV with component. the big plus for VGA as far as i'm concerned is it gives a much sharper image vs component.

OMG and I spent the last few days wiring my own together.. Just didn't wanna wait for shipping, sure they're nearly free on Ebay!

2 q's tho, are these genuine MS cables, or knock offs? Also, is there much ghosting of the image with it? Might still pick one up, although I put VGA onto one of those multi-console component cables and a switch to flick between comp/VGA. Works a treat!
