Equipment For Recording Mixes?

I'm hoping by Autumn to have a nice bedroom DJ setup consisting of the CDJ-400 and DJM-400 and I want to continue recording my mixes but I only know of the DJM-350 or the Rane SL1 and a laptop, the SL1 costs €500 and a decent laptop would be a lot more ontop of that, I was also thinking of buying an MSI WindBox and a 24" monitor as an alternative as I want the big screen and it meets the minimum specs but it's still expensive.

What other options are there for recording mixes? Anything less than €450-500?

You say you want to continue recording your mixes, how are you recording at the moment? You could always take a line out from the second master outputs on the DJM 400.

Just using VirtualDJ at the moment, so what would I do with the second master out, what would I use to record it?

So if you're using Virtual DJ then presumably you have a laptop/PC. You can pickup an RCA to 3.5mm jack lead like this and connect it from one of the Master Outs to a line in socket on your computer. You can use any sound recording software like Audacity to then record your mixes.

Ah, nice one! Seems to be what I'm after. I'd prefer to not use a computer to rule out the chances of something going wrong, as it does happen. My goal is to not use a computer for DJing, hence wanting the CDJ400s and I use a PC and will be mixing in another room meaning I'd have to get a laptop or another PC. Also not a bad price and a good size.

    Something like that looks ideal!
The problem I had when recording mixes, is that I kept going back to the PC and checking that the levels were alright, then got distracted by an email/facebook update/picture of a kitten

With one of those you can just focus on your tunes without any distractions, plus it'd be great for taking with you for recording live sets without risking losing something pricey like a laptop

Not only that, if I was recording a live set there's also the chance of something going wrong, as well as loosing it and having to carry around the extra gear. If I ever get a chance to play in a proper setting that is :D

I don't have a car and travel by the luxery of Dublin Bus so I travel light. A CD wallet, headphones, small torch and the recorder would fit nicely in a bag. It would be a pain in the arse having to carry a laptop and Rane SL1 with all that, not to mention the cable mess of it all.
