Amplifier question

Hopefully pretty straight forward - I have a decent record deck that until now has been connected through a philips separates hifi system. This unit ran in my shed (long story) but disaster struck and rain got in and kapow for the philips unit.

I put a cheaper micro hifi in the shed but now find that the record deck hardly sounds, predumably because it's not going through an amp

what I think I need is a basic amp that the deck can plug into - really don't want to spend a fortune - if I get an amp do I just connect deck to it & output through speakers ??

What you need (probably) is a phono stage. I'm guessing your old hifi probably had one built in, the new one doesn't.
