    hi all
just moved into a new place and cant commit to a long term contract with ntl or sky as ill probably be moving again in 6 months so i bought an ariel but have had no luck tuning anything in. im in baleymote in sligo and reception seems non-existant.
there is a ntl point in the house too. is there anyway i can use this together with a decoder?
any suggestions would be very welcome.

Why can no one spell AERIAL correctly?? No wonder people are complaining about their reception if the are using a washing detergent.
I can see your point, but what an unhelpful post! I wouldn't mind if you offered some TV-related advice afterwards but you just went out of your way to be a smart alec:(

As for Ballymote, Co. Sligo... I'm not very familiar with the area but it seems that truskmore provides good coverage in most of the surrounding parts, except perhaps the immediate northeast of the village itself. You'll need two aerials outdoors, a VHF and a group C/D UHF aerial along with a combiner unit to connect both to the one cable.

I'm suprised you're not having much succes picking up RTE 1 and 2. Even an indoor aerial should get a decent signal on those channels.

The UPC (formerly Chorus) MMDS point which you refer to is no good for anything, unless you sign up to UPC.

Perhaps you should also invest in a free-to-air satellite dish kit? One off payment often for less than €100 if you put it up yourself and you get many free UK digital channels. More details on that in satellite forum.

The tv might be NI/UK spec uhf only with bad uhf reception in the area meaning a cheap uhf indoor aerial will not work.

Ballymote in general is a weak reception area.
Some houses receive from Cairnhill, some from Truskmore, with rooftop aerials. Most people have Sky or UPC.
